I was under the impression that mid level skilled immigrants had made a dent in earnings (plumbers, builders, etc). Makes sense as a supply and demand issue as well. The more workers there are, the less you pay.

In fact I'd be interested to see evidence that it hasn't as I thought this was the only point that could legitimately be made in favour of Brexit.

That said, our expectations have changed now, and I strongly doubt that low skilled British people will want the same jobs that their EU equivalents were doing. Moreover we'll lose more jobs in the long run if we're not able to come up with a rather stunning trade agreement.

Vince cable claimed last week there are several empirical studies by the treasury. proving the effect is marginal. But may has buried them.

I'm still on this fucking train btw!

I don't entirely trust Cable but ok. In general I think you have to consider that something has changed in society when once upon a time it was possible to have single earner households and now it isn't for the vast majority of people. It'd be interesting to see this discussed, although even if the EU has had a detrimental affect here, I would still say that it more than makes up for it elsewhere.

Anecdotal but the lack of skilled workmen in the construction industry is killing us. Its driving wages up since the tradesmen can just move jobs whenever they are offered a pay rise. The bigger companies can manage the pay rises, the smaller ones can't. Once the skilled foreign workers leave it's only going to get worse. Total lack of pushing decent apprenticeships by successive governments and the complete bollocks up by the CITB means there isn't even kids going into trades to keep it stable as is, never mind if there is a push on house building.

Same goes with the engineering industry over here. Businesses can't get skilled welders. It sounds like a fairly basic trade but there's a huge lack of it around.

Nothing that I can see you can't get from other brands. I've had iPhones since the 3G came out. Not any more. I'll be getting a Samsung.

I've had Samsungs since the s3 and I'm fucking them off. Their aftersales customer service is fucking shocking... if anything goes wrong and you tell them they'll start asking you a minefield of questions to see if they can void your warranty before they even look at it.

Amazing. The Sun have decided to have a go at the EU in German for some reason, except they couldn't be bothered to pay a translator to do it for them (or no one would take on the job) so they've just stuck it through Google Translate instead.

(The actual content is completely deluded too - Merkel should intervene in Brussels to get Britain a better deal  - but that goes without saying.)
