NJS 4371
Leadsom "jokingly" said come back when it gets 17m - now that would be good.
RobinRobin 11138
I remain (sorry wrong word) confused about this extension. Given that May needs to have her deal approved by Parliament next week to even have a short delay, and given that Bercow has said she can't bring it back, what does what was agreed last night change? Does this mean a no deal Brexit next Friday? Can anyone explain? Or do I need to wait for John Oliver - crap, he is having a week off
ewerk 30266
29th March is gone. I assume that the fact that the EU have agreed to move our departure date is a significant enough change to allow May a MV3, though I’m not 100% sure.
Gemmill 44393
She'll get her vote. I read this as the EU, utterly frustrated with May's performance yesterday, trying to give Parliament a bit more time to exert some influence on the process. Which is just a further indictment of her pathetic leadership.

Ayatollah Hermione 13794
She's a complete embarrassment. Absolutely none of this can be worth it, just so you can say you're Prime Minister. I'd honestly reopen the tower and chuck her in it.
Gemmill 44393
If I recall correctly, our own CT was fond of the "they need us more than we need them" argument.

Rayvin 5183
The EU have done us a big favour there tbh. That's actually really mature and sensible of them.

And themselves, makes perfect sense what they have done. Gives a bit of breathing space, more time for no deal preparations and to take our industry, gives more certainty about our leaving date, protects the EU elections, and ultimately leaves all the pressure on the UK. The EU can lie back and blow smoke rings.
Rayvin 5183
Ok sure but they've also given Parliament time to kill off May and take control of the process. Horrifyingly we now need Corbyn to step up.
Renton 21307
I've all but given up on a good outcome now, I just can't see what will heal the rifts. There is no solution to the stupidity personified by the likes of CT. Honestly swinging round to the idea we have to experience no deal to get this monkey off our backs. My kids are young, I'm hoping that in a decades time our politics can be reformed, because without that there is no future for the UK in any case. Rayvin 5183
I think if there wasn't a real appetite to avoid No Deal, we wouldn't have gotten an extension - the EU have provided a 10 day extension because they still hope that Parliament might be able to unfuck this. I actually think, based on how things have developed, that May might just give in and get the long extension if MV3 fails. She didn't rule it out yesterday. And really, she's the only barrier to getting it.

Gemmill 44393
Aye. I think we now pivot to a softer Brexit because that is ultimately the will of Parliament. Although I wouldn't rule out Dracula's Mam whipping what should be a free indicative vote process under pressure from the head cases in her party. Revoking A50 is a pipe dream unfortunately. Renton 21307
What good will a long extension do? It's just more can kicking, in 21 months we will be in the exact same position again. Well, not exactly , because disinvestment in the UK will continue and our international standing will worsen. Parliament will remain paralysed and the two main parties will still only be bothered about self interests. A slow death is worse than a fast one if you believe in life after death. She fell out with her chief whip yesterday, she might find that difficult now too. Really, she's all over the place. I don't think for a second we'll revoke A50 unless Parliament actually does think No Deal will be apocalyptic. But campaigning for it on the strongest possible terms strengthens anyone calling for a softer Brexit.

May is the only reason we've done this can kicking bullshit though. If she's gone, as she has made clear she will be in the event of a long extension, then Parliament will actually have to come together and work this out properly. They'll do indicative votes, settle on soft Brexit, and that'll be what goes through. I'm not even sure we'll get a second referendum - but honestly I don't care that much as long as FOM remains. Dr Gloom 21813
anyone going on the march tomorrow? it'll be my first since 2003. that achieved fuck all too but still feel it's a democratic duty, if ultimately a pointless exercise. the thing that really pisses me off about these things is all these career protesters, (the stop the war/anti-israel/whatever your particular cause might be) who hijack the demonstration to push their own narrative. it puts off moderates from taking it seriously. i'll just have to hold my nose. How will that work? The WA is closed. We can aspire for a softer Brexit via the political declaration, but it's not legally binding and ultimately driven by nefarious tory cunts. Do you trust them? Okay, maybe the EU will rip it up and we can start again with a very long extension? But is there now any appetite for this? Does it cure the underlying issues that our politics and democracy is broken? Meanwhile nothing else gets done.

I don't know what the point in them agreeing to an extension only to continue to insist on May's deal would be. Nothing will cure the underlying issues that our politics and democracy is broken - nothing until everyone loses interest and moves on to the next hysteria. Possibly Corbyn might be useful for this.
