ewerk 30666
Not much, the EU court have strongly indicated that the UK can simply call the whole thing off and don't need the EU's agreement to do so. The government have already admitted that MPs can bind them into doing so. It means that May's claim that it's her deal or no deal doesn't hold any water. It gives MPs the power to stop Brexit should they chose to do so.
Rayvin 5227
So wait, you think that if Mays deal is voted down we'll end up revoking article 50 and staying? Isn't there a democratic fallout to that?
ewerk 30666
Following a PV of course. But if there's a refusal to grant that then parliament won't allow no deal.

Rayvin 5227
If we end up staying in on a technicality like that, after all of this, then the Tory party should be forcibly disbanded for being the biggest fucking waste of the country's time and money since world war one. It isn't a technicality. It's confirmation of parliamentary power.

ewerk 30666
It’s Dominic Grieve tabling the amendment though so he’ll probably vote against it himself.
Rayvin 5227
If that amendment goes through and Mays deal is voted down, surely we're looking at a second vote with a binary option. Mays deal or Remain.
ewerk 30666
It's possible. But what do the Brexiters in parliament want? The EU won't re-open negotiations in any meaningful way and they know in their tiny, black hearts that no deal is a disaster. A PV would have government support because, as I've said before, it's the only way she gets her deal through.

PaddockLad 17290
Contempt of Parliament v contempt of court? 🤔 My paternal grandfather was done for CoC sometime in the 1920s.... he’d been nicked for D&D in the town of Duns in Berwickshire. He was up in front of the sheriff (equivalent to magistrates) on the Monday morning and was asked what he had to say for himself. He thought for a moment before apparently replying: ”Well your honour, I certainly wasn’t as pissed as you were at the Freemasons ball last year” 30 days The Tory cabinet think they’re above what Parliament tells them to do. Who are they supposed to be representing again?...

Not that I expect anything mindblowing from it. Not sure that’s strictly correct. I think the government is portioning the procedural committee first and will set out further plans tomorrow. Basically a political stunt by Labour and a vote the government would have easily won had the DUP not been in a huff. As this relates to Brexit, the legal stuff of importance is all out there. In reality it’s stupid that the government should release legal advice on what the negotiating strategy should be next and what are considered weak points of the EU’s future position in the negogiations. A precedent on publishing full legal advice has been set and will come back to bite a future Labour government.
Christmas Tree 4729
I could be wrong, but I think Toontastics MP has just delivered the Tory amendment result that guarantees we won’t leave without a deal. Christmas Tree 4729
May is the only grown up in the room. Her deal does it’s best to join together the 52 & 48. The true brexiteers want a no deal that could damage the country. The remainers want to disregard the refferendum that would simply continue the split in the country. Corbyn is promoting a deal that is pure unicorn stuff. sad state of politics.
