This is part of the problem now for Labour with the unwashed having such a big say over Labour leaders. Starmers ok, could even be a wet Tory, but is definitely nowhere near the best leader Labour could have.

Obviously the way they lean gets in the way, but Yvette Cooper would wipe the floor with this Government week in week out.

Theres quite a few others as well.

I’m also becoming a big fan of Angela Rayner. Think she would romp home.

Have you read any of that article? It states that the NI specific backstop must be included, you said yesterday it was 'defunct'.

It also says that the UK-EU customs border will be negotiated after the withdrawal agreement, you said it would be in the WA.

So basically nothing like you said.

First of all, I think the main thrust of expanding the backstop by a few months is mainly for the scenario where a deal has been agreed but some EU countries may not have ratified it in time.

As for the backstop it seems as though we are heading for UK wide customs union and a NI wide Single Market. The U.K. can then make a sovereign decision to align with SM on goods too which would eradicate virtually all need for new checks anywhere.

Its immaterial what you do as everything has been sorted. Simply loose ends now being tied up, a bit of theatrical drama to make it look hard won and a nice big signing ceremony in December to leave Labour with no choice but to back it.

You’re pretty naive if you can’t see how this will be framed come the vote.

When May agreed the withdrawal agreement with the EU there will be euphoria in the media, here and in the EU. Barnier, Junker, Tusk, Merkel and Macron will be celebrating and congratulating each other. EU leaders will be frothing about our future relationship. British business will be buzzing and Christmas will almost be upon us. Peace and goodwill to all men and then up steps Jeremy.....

And if it passes cabinet tomorrow, prepare for the above.
