ewerk 30616
I personally can't see this happening but this is pretty much what it's all going to come down to.
Rayvin 5223
If it does happen, is that good for us? On the spectrum of catastrophic outcomes, is it Canada?
ewerk 30616
It's much worse. It would mean not being in the single market so there would be checks on goods but we would be in the customs union so wouldn't be able to change our tariffs in order to sign trade deals. Rayvin 5223
But Northern Ireland is saved, presumably. So it's the absolute bare minimum.

Well NI would still need to be in the SM and the DUP won't like that.

ewerk 30616
It'll be interesting to see what format this takes. It very much undermines the UK's negotiating position for trade talks imo.

That bits just a finger in the air though and to try and leave a bit of fear for his EU 27 mates. Overall he knows it’s going to be awesome. Glad he’s consistent. The bottom line is this. The refferendum was won (narrowly) by the leavers. Even a lot of remainers just want the deal to be done. Another refferendum would be bad for the country and the anti EU stance would drag on for years. Regardless of which way anyone voted, the best outcome now is a sensible deal that allows the U.K. and the EU to move forward as solid allies. If it all turns to shit then we can rejoin at some point in the future as proper members or move to efta. But agreeing a good future partnership is the best way of securing a lasting friendship whether that leads to success as a stand-alone country or future EU member. Isegrim 9777
I think a second referendum would be a good idea, one with only people being allowed to vote who can spell the word.
