"We send the EU £350 million a week. Let's send £175 million so you don't have to have a Romanian shop next-door to your local Poundland."

Actually, that'd probably have been a winning campaign too.

Was just thinking that. If only Blair had taken the 7 year A7 opt out we would never have arrived here. It was basically the last tranche of EU immigration that tipped the scales.

because, believe it or not, democracy sometimes works, and the elite/establishment/corporate interests/msm or whichever arbitrary group you want to collectively blame don't control the world to to the extent parky says.

I'm getting more Parky-ised by the year tbh.  Will be full on "Loose Change" by 2020.

I probably shouldn't be posting that (or even thinking it) at this point. <_<

Predominantly white societies having/voting for their own kind. Now, that is shocking.

It would be interesting to know how many non white persons stood to be elected and failed (because of racism ).

Edit: Plus I have no clue how this is related to free movement.

You know how it's related alright in so much as the Brexit vote win was chalked off as outright racism/anti-immigration and jingoism by the Brits (especially in Germany).

Are you seriously trying o tell me there are two few minorities in France, Spain and Belgium? I won't count Italy cause they probably are a bit racist.

The EU talks big about inclusivity/anti-racism/ but seems to not have noticed the whitewash in its own house. :D

No minorities in the commission either. Nobody even thought of it cause the Guardian doesn't go on about it day after day. This is a fuckin farce. These clowns intimating every chance that the UK is somehow anti-foreigner.

''After all, some 15 million people in Germany come from an immigration background, making up 18 percent of the population. But the fact remains that in the German parliament they are represented by just 11 politicians, making up less than 2 percent of the Bundestag.''

Sorry state of affairs. I don't think the UK needs to take any lectures from Europe reg immigration and representation.

41 in the UK Parliament.

Vast majority of the people who've "come over here" and "taken our jobs" lately are white though.

I suppose there's Farage's poster campaign - fear the swarthy man! - but I wonder how many people listening to him were really going to do anything but vote Leave anyway.

Post-referendum polling suggests that immigration was the primary driver for 33% of those who voted. 49% wanted to restore parliamentary sovereignty. I find this both encouraging and depressing. Encouraging because these are people who we can assume aren't necessarily a bunch of racists. Depressing because it means that 49% of people who voted out, voted for something completely meaningless.

The EU's democratic deficit is a genuine issue that should have been debated properly in the campaign. Shame the referendum didn't focus on it at all. I don't believe for a moment that's the real reason nearly half the brexiteers voted that way - it was probably just the least offensive option to fill in on the survey. And I doubt there was one that said "voted Brexit because my life is shit and I want to protest against the establishment."

I know there are people who are very anti-eastern European but I sadly think a lot of people conflated the EU with "brown" immigration as well.

Well I'm not saying it's perfect but there is/was a lot of ignorance around EU democracy. I don't think people realised that commissioners are appointed by the government's much like the house of Lords in the UK.

Then there's the contempt the British public in general have always shown EU parliamentary elections, even voting that cunt Farage in.

Aye, I've heard a number of idiots stating that refugees was their reason for voting out. It's morons like that who clearly illustrate why a referendum was the totally wrong way to decide this issue.
