She's a clever politician and I don't mean that in a perjorative way. She's making a very reasonable offer given the circumstances but I feel it's also one that the Tories may well find themselves thinking they have to reject. Which would almost certainly tip the balance in her favour in a 2nd referendum.

Not that I have a great deal of sympathy for her, but the greatest PM in the world eva has placed her and the government in a pretty shitty position regarding all this.

Given that she chose to run for leader and to see this through, you should have precisely zero sympathy for her.

"Senior city figures" have warned the Treasury Select committee that 230,000 city jobs could be lost as a result of Brexit.

This is never happening.

It should be sold along those lines. Especially since half the disenfranchised types (for want of a less polite phrase) won't bother voting come the next GE anyway. And it looks like any gains from UKIP could be Labour rather Tory losses anyway.

Just thinking though, I wonder how much the press and the traditional parties will go after UKIP. Because going after Trump seemed to have the opposite effect to that which was intended. Loads of fuckwits will lap up his shit

i disagree. she's said she doesn't want to keep "bits" (single market access in other words). so it's a hard divorce, if you take her at face value and on how the market has reacted with the sterling trade.

Look Alex, the Chairman of HSBC has said that "the best outcome for EVERYBODY is the preservation of the status quo", so who are you to argue. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Surprised there's been nowt in here this afternoon.

Anna Soubry, the Conservative, asks Gove is he still stands by the claim that leaving the EU could save £350m a week for the NHS. Or will he accept that was a lie?

Gove says he is not in government, so he cannot decide how the money saved is spent. But he says Vote Leave said £100m a week would go to the NHS. Vote Leave also wanted extra money to go to science, and VAT on fuel to be cut.

weird that.

'I have no input into where money is spent but yes it was a lie.'

He ought to have been laughed out of the room with that one, its just daft.

Clarke's speech was quite good, the rest have been underwhelming. Main call seems to be for a unilateral decision on the rights of current residents from the EU.

  • The data confirms previous indications that local results were strongly associated with the educational attainment of voters - populations with lower qualifications were significantly more likely to vote Leave. (The data for this analysis comes from one in nine wards)
  • The level of education had a higher correlation with the voting pattern than any other major demographic measure from the census
