Rayvin 5572
The British pound has hit a thirty-one year low. The drop reflects growing fears over the UK’s economic outlook and the terms of its exit from the EU after a speech by prime minister Theresa May on Sunday. Sterling is now 14 per cent lower against the US dollar than its pre-Brexit vote levels.   What are we doing...
Renton 22401
Shit memory, but a few weeks back someone posted an opinion piece that predicted a hard Brexit was politically inevitable under May. Looks like they were right. Honestly, the majority of people did not vote for this, this is not democracy.
Dr Gloom 22511
traders I know are saying we should be braced for sterling at £1.20 or possible even as low as parity by the end of the year. So a good time to think twice about booking that winter holiday abroad
Alex 35914
Jesus wept  I'm not going to stop discussing the biggest political event in a generation (which I and the majority of the country voted for), just because it may or may not effect you at some point in the future.  I suggest you grow up. You don't see me blubbing when you and everyone else wanks themselves silly over Uber. Incorrect, as usual.

Renton 22401
You're not really sure what you are complaining about though? Â Mays goal is free access to the single market and basically then just running Britain like a normal country. We're not going to get access to the single market without free movement of people though, and May's drawn a line in the sand over the latter. It's pretty simple. The reality is the referendum wasn't really a dichotomous choice, as the endpoint for leave wasn't defined. More than 50% of people would have been against leaving the single market entirely. We've undemocratically surrendered the fate of this country to the hard right ideologues. Edited October 4, 2016 by Renton

Meenzer 15839
It's reasonable to assume that a good number of people who voted Leave did so thinking it couldn't have that much of an impact - closer to a symbolic "impetus for a policy shift" than a seismic change in the very fundamentals of the country and how its economy functions - because there's no way any prime minister would agree to put a nation's future on the line like that. Â Wonder what they're thinking now the reality of it all is gradually becoming clear. Cheers Dave. Best PM evah. Â

What could be more democratic that an unelected Prime Minister, in a country with an unelected head of state, making a decision (which the electorate probably don't want) that could change the course of the country forever? Christmas Tree 4920
Except we can't get tariff free access to the single market without free movement of people. Â Get back to your fantasy of Theresa May squatting over you and taking a hard brexit on your chest. You don't know that. That's the whole point of the negotiation. May is approaching this exactly the right way. Â We are simply returning to being a sovereign trading nation as we have always been bar this brief 40 year dalliance. We are then going to seek good trade deals with the rest of the world. The EU should be looked at in exactly the same respect. Â Hi eu, were Britain, fancy trading with each other. Oui, job done. Â If they want to act like a jilted girlfriend, tough. Â As I've said all along, we will get a free trade deal. We are there biggest customer and it will be madness for them to jeopardise their own jobs. Â Mays got this.

ewerk 31587
You don't know that. That's the whole point of the negotiation. May is approaching this exactly the right way. Â Â "The UK today has access to the single market because it respects the four freedoms," said Hollande. "None can be separated from the other. There cannot be free movement of goods, free movement of capital [and] free movement of services if there isn't free movement of people." Â He added: "It will be a choice facing the UK. Remain in the single market and then assume the free movement that goes with it or to have another status. That will be the subject of the negotiation." Â Why the fuck would the EU want to give us a better deal outside of the EU than we had inside the EU?
