''A better manager would do better than Pardew'*' is rearing it's ugly head again. Just as somebody attempts a high brow football thread :icon_lol:

*Which is baffling just after the fat man has appointed Kinnear

Fluked his way to 5th but was not unlucky last year? How can a team come 5th with a dreadful manager when Ryan Taylor, Gabriel Obertan, James Perch and Mike Williamson are starting on a regular basis.

He's had one good season with us and one bad. To judge him as dreadful is therefore, in my opinion, a bit stupid. Sorry if that offends but 'dreadful' is not an objective appraisal of his time here.

you could argue he's had one good season with us and the majority of his career has been dreadful mind.

he did alright with reading and west ham for a bit.

i'm with chez on this. he's not the greatest manager, not the worst. but probably the best we can hope to attract with ashley at the helm. the alternative looks like being kinnear ffs

:D

"His FA Cup and League cup record is atrocious." might have been a better way to put it.

He got to the final with West Ham & came with in a whisker of winning it. It's been a long time since we've been close.

"His FA Cup and League cup record with us is atrocious." might have been an even better way to put it.

Sadly that's true but it still doesn't mean Pardew's any good though.

he's average. it's frustrating because he's conservative and his team's don't play attacking, attractive football.

but calling for his head is an exercise in futility - fuck knows who we'd end up with at the helm if we was to get the chop.

With this logic we should keep the current players as well as there isn't any guarantee that we are likely to sign better players under Ashley and Kinnear.

they've shown, thanks in large i suspect to graham carr, that they're not completely incompetent when it comes to sniffing out good, cheap players in the transfer market.

ashley's record when it comes to recruitment of senior management is less impressive. this is a man that hired wise, jiminez, lambias, pardew and kinnear (twice).

I think his passing has been a bit suspect lately but when it needed a cool head to pick out the right player at the right time he was right on the money. :good:

Don't think he'll ever be that good of a passer overall, but his running with the ball late on in games when the opposition are tired and there's more space is a huge asset to have.
