Tooj 17
It's plain he can't play with Coloccini and he's going nowhere so daft keeping him. Isn't Boldons Demi Streete a cb and on the verge of the team. Quite happy for Mike Williamson to start. Streete is nowhere near the first team and his attitude by all accounts is abysmal. ClubSpinDoctor 0
You do realise that the vast majority of the clubs in this league (and most top tiers) are in a pretty similar position, right? I don't know why you seem to imply that we're unique in not having a settled squad at this point in the pre-season. Especially during a World Cup summer. Look around. It's the same everywhere, if anything we've done no less business than any other club, and more than others in some. What does "token gesture signings" even mean in this context? You think they've pulled these players names out of a hat? At what point do you give the club any form of credit for bringing certain players in? In the next few days we're almost certainly going to bring in a good £17m+ worth of talent in Janmaat and Cabella. Both players good enough to make their respective World Cup squads. Quite probable that we'll have those two and possibly another (Riviere?), on top of Perez, De Jong and Colback all in time to make the plane to New Zealand for our first pre-season tour. That's seven players in. Two out (Yanga-Mbiwa who will surely be replaced eventually, and Debuchy). Hardly suggests we're likely to have a significantly weakened squad come mid-August, does it? How can you say there's no "forward thinking/planning" and in the same sentence point out how we follow players for months on end? Isn't that the very definition of planning? To have an eye on a player (like Cabella) and then sign him when the time is right? Yes we don't always get players over the line, but it's not easy for all but the very biggest/wealthiest clubs. We're a mid-table club who don't have the same incentives as better ones. Has the fact that ridiculous amounts of transfer business happens in the last day (or two) of the transfer window escaped you? Two out? You count Perez as an 'in' (a "development" player), but don't acknowledge Remy, De Jong or Shola as 'outs'. We can probably still include Cabaye as an 'out' as well. As well as Gosling and Amalfitano. Might as well write Ben Arfa off as well, can't see a way back for him.
Monroe Transfer 0
I wasn't counting loan players there, and Amalfitano and Gosling aren't really big misses. Fair point about Cabaye. As for Perez, whatever the club may have said, I reckon he'll get plenty of first team game time. When perhaps he shouldn't, depending on how well we do or don't do in terms of getting new forwards in.
ohhh_yeah 2991
Should be looking to buy a more physical centre half to play alongside him and build the defence around that pairing. Full agreement.
trooper 940
So you think chasing players for 18 months then hardly signing any is good forward pla ning your deluded as I've said before if you dont like my posts just ignore them you seem to have a problem everytime I post something Edited July 13, 2014 by trooper

Brock Manson 0
He may be training with the first team but the fact that he's ready for first team football is mutually exclusive. We're letting a 1st team CB go, leaving 3 recognised 1st teamers in that position, so he's most likely being tried out so we don't have to focus on bringing in a new player in that position. You contrary twit.

trooper 940
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is set to go out on loan from Newcastle United, if the club pay a sizeable part of his wages. RMC radio in France are reporting that Newcastle are in talks with Yoan Gouffran’s old club Bordeaux but it is taking time to haggle over the proportion of Mapou’s wages that United will subsidise. Yet again against Sydney FC on Tuesday, the one-time youthful title winning captain of Montpellier found himself filling in at right-back, whilst this time Steven Taylor partnered Coloccini in the middle. Last season the defender only started 17 Premier League matches and was never given a proper run in the team at centre-half. If indeed Mapou goes out on loan and United pay for the privilege, it will be a crazy situation when United have such a small squad of capable players yet one who was such a great prospect when he arrived, isn’t given a proper chance to prove himself at St.James’ Park. Howay 12496
What the fuck is the point in loaning him out then paying a sizable portion of his wages ffs. They should just keep him or sell him and bring someone else in (personally would prefer they kept him), unless they think if he goes and performs well in France he'd command a bigger fee then atm. Wank idea either way.
acrossthepond 878
Should stay and be in the team at centre-half.
Leon77 0
I cannot understand our logic when it comes to the treatment of foreign defenders in the last decade or so!? The only two who I really consider successes are Colo and Enrique and both of them were given time to develop and adapt (I like Santon but something in his game seems missing to me). I may be wrong, but I thought I'd seen glimpses of a good defender when Mbwia has been at centre back, not so much when he's been playing fullback but why the fuck is he being played out there anyway? With a transfer policy of mainly buying bargain-priced players we are bound to have failed punts (Obertan, Marveaux) but I think we'd be giving up too soon if we were to ship Mbwia out after what is a relatively short period. Kid Dynamite 7179
Only way id be up up for loaning him out is if we get a replacement in to partner Colo. Id rather keep YMB than Taylor or Willo tbh
ewerk 31218
Totally agreed. I simply can't see us buying a CB this summer.
aimaad22 4222
Aye, if we send him out and dont get another CB in we'll be asking for trouble. Still shocked at how little confidence we're showing in him given the chances he's had.
BLACKANDWHITEGEORDIE 0
This Is Pardew's 'get out' clause when things go wrong. MYM was not quite up to it and I felt he needed to go on loan. However, we have not been successful in signing a replacement and the injury to Colo looks quite serious and he will be out for some time. Meanwhile we soldier on. Tom 14013
As if Pardew has anything to do with who stays and who goes man.
aimaad22 4222
But considering Ashley splashed out 7M for Mbiwa why would he want to offload right now unless Pardew told him he thinks he's shite?
Tom 14013
I think it's more to do with the fact he rarely got a game last year and probably earns a decent wage. Pardew coaches - that's about it.
essembeeofsunderland 811
Whether at right back or in his `specialised' position as a central defender he has been shite.17 starts last season and useless in approximately 99 % of them.Too many on here were wanting him to be given a place at right back and based on nowt but a love - in with the clown. He has proved he cannot play at right back but i don't recall anyone being wise after the event by admitting he is shite as a fullback. We need to cut our losses quickly and ship the buffoon back to France.
