Howmanheyman 33141
When will Charnley demand an investigation into our coaching methods and the capabilities of all the medical staff? How do you know the medical staff didn't inform Charnley of his previous injury record? How do you know the club didn't take a risk as they hoped he would get a good injury free run, show his quality and then make the club a profit when a more ambitious club bought him? Do you seriously believe Charnley would take any risk with Ashley's money knowing he has had injury problems in the last 2 years. Just check out how many of our players have missed games in the EPL this season due to injuries. The answer is we are numero uno.
Alex 35063
Do you seriously believe Charnley would take any risk with Ashley's money They take calculated risks with the club all the time. E.g. appointing Carver until the end of the season/letting Pardew go, paying that money for Cabella, signing Ba. Why should De Jong any different? Hardly a massive risk therefore except with hindsight.
Alex 35063
Signing Ben Arfa permanently while out with a broken leg too. Aye, exactly. iirc correctly Happy Face pointed out that prior to the season before joining us, De Jongs injury record was actually pretty good. Hardly a massive risk therefore except with hindsight. Not saying it was a calculated risk (beyond the fact any transfer is), rather challenging the notion the club is always extremely diligent in how it proceeds with signings etc.
Rayvin 5217
Thing is, how do you go about collapsing your lung? Surely that's the kind of injury that can only come about through some kind of gung ho (I'm looking at you Tiote) training ground challenge. It's not like we all walk around at risk of our lungs collapsing. Which is just unfortunate from the club's point of view. Doesn't sound like it's anything to do with his original injury. Injuries can include gunshot or knife wound to the chest, rib fracture, or certain medical procedures. In some cases, a collapsed lung is caused by air blisters (blebs) that break open, sending air into the space around the lung. This can result from air pressure changes such as when scuba diving or traveling to a high altitude. Tall, thin people and smokers are more likely to have a collapsed lung. Lung diseases can also increase the chance of getting a collapsed lung. These include: Asthma COPD Cystic fibrosis Tuberculosis Whooping cough In some cases, a collapsed lung occurs without any cause. This is called a spontaneous pneumothroax or collapsed lung. trophyshy 7083
A decent pneumothorax could feed balls through to our shadow striker tbf.
NJS 4378
Ex-boss of mine had the spontaneous version while on holiday. He was a keen holiday diver, asthmatic and light smoker which I presumed combined with the usual randomness factor.
ClubSpinDoctor 0
Mate of mine had one last year, ironically about 8 months after he'd quit smoking. He's started again now though, his reasoning being shit like this didn't happen when he was on the tabs.

Cabella has come good and signing Ba was hardly a major risk. He didn't let us or Chelsea down.
BLACKANDWHITEGEORDIE 0
Signing Ben Arfa permanently while out with a broken leg too.Players usually return from a broken leg without any problem.

Hardly a massive risk therefore except with hindsight.Up to 2012/13 he was OK. His injury problems began in 2013/14 when he only played 19 games, out for 50% of the season. That was what my original post was based on. The fact he had injury problems when we signed him. And for such a good player his transfer fee was half of Cabella. Maybe Ajax knew something? Err, that's why it was a calculated risk. Cabella has come good And signing him was a calculated risk because we spent a fair bit of dosh on him and he might not have come good and signing Ba was hardly a major risk. He didn't let us or Chelsea down. But it was a calculated risk because of his injury record
