ADP 0
Not sure if many of you are familiar with him, or have ever frequented the Jazz Cafe... Sadly, its owner Keith Crombie a.k.a The Jazz Man, died yesterday at the age of 74. A colourful man who could spin so many stories about his exploits around the continent in the 60s, meeting and putting on some of the finest musicians of the time. http://www.sundaysun...79310-32515001/ RIP Edited December 30, 2012 by ADP

Gemmill 44992
He was always at the bottom of the stairs outside Newcastle Uni (next to Thornes bookshop) handing out fliers when I was at Uni. To be honest, I didn't realise he owned the place, I assumed he was down on his luck and handing out fliers. RIP.

Gene_Clark 12
When my partner was a student, she worked in The Forth & said he had the foulest temper in the world. Once the Jazz Cafe was burgled (takings, drink, tabs; usual) & the coppers had to go upstairs to his flat to see if there had been anything else stolen. Unsurprisingly, he lived in squalor & copper who had looked at place called in to The Forth afterwards for cuppa & a chat, ostensibly to ask if there were witnesses, & described Crombie's living quarters as "a gorilla's nest." Monkeys Fist 42471
Ma Fist and the various Aunt Fist's were very much part of the cool crowd involved in the Club A Go Go in the early 60s, they all worked and socialised there, along with Dave Finlay, Keith Gibbon, and some band called the Animals. RIP to the cantankerous old bugger.
Meenzer 15559
Aww, RIP. We used to do the Jazz Cafe occasionally when we fancied a change from Rockshots and Cuba Cuba.

Happy Face 29
Spent 1 night in the Jazz cafe and enjoyed a Findus turkey burger on a dry bun with a couple of cans of Skol. Despite my lack of support for the venue and it's lack of quality food/drink, I hope the place doesn't go under without his enthusiasm. Burch 0
Can't say I 'knew' him, but he always made me smile when I did speak to him. Only weeks ago he told me that Harry Connick Jr once performed there. I pretended to believe him. Seems he wasn't bullshitting. A wonderfully unprofessional venue as well. An antidote to conformism. RIP.
Gene_Clark 12
i went past the Jazz Cafe today. there was a small bouquet of red roses affixed to the door, with a card saying "RIP from the Club A GO GO survivors" - very touching
sweetleftpeg 0
Used to hassle the shit out of us just about everyday leaving Northumbria Uni, used to stand next to the car park opposite the City Hall and launch a flyer at you. He used to be a bit funny about who he let in to the Jazz Cafe as well. Wanted a young crowd so would turn away regulars if he thought they were too old. Monkeys Fist 42471
http://vimeo.com/m/57753560 Nice short about him and the Jazz Cafe. No mention of dodgy chilli bowls though. Nice to see Fish has popped back from the future too Edit: if anyone is having problems with the link, look up Crombie by Duncsn Davis on Vimeo.
