NJS 4411
This reinforces my view that British players should be given thirty seconds to decide whether to sign for us and foreigners a day at most. It's how football is now - and yes I do hope hes a complete failure. I also think there's an element in signing him of scuppering us as well which I wouldnt put past the twat. It's like when Rangers and Celtic sign players from lesser clubs just to ensure they aren't challenged.
McFaul 35
Reminds me of the time Distin signed for Man City because they were a "bigger club", yet we were going in to the Champions League and they'd just been promoted. Nowt to do with the wage offer being double ours. You can all say well we'd go for the money, what about Messi then? He was offered £600,000 a week to go to Russia, he said no fuck off, I'm happy on 200k at Barcelona. Anyone who has been on 20k a week for five years should be set up for life anyway, and Remy clearly has.
McFaul 35
Hmm today's Evening Standard are suggesting that as far as Newcastle and even Remy are concerned, he's still not made his mind up.

Kitman 2207
If he's going to QPR I hope it's for silly money that Fernandes can't afford and will ultimately regret. I'd hate to lose out over a paltry few thousand a week to their loathsome meltyfaced twat of a manager

If he came here on 50K a week the Taxman would "only" leave him £30k. So if he is on £20k now, then what he had thought was a lucrative offer from us might look less so. QPR actuall doubling his salary and then some would be much more appealing.

Where do you draw the line with this aye we'd all do the same? No we wouldn't. If Man Utd came in for him now and offered him the wage we have, he'd go there on a lot less money than he would at QPR. That's a fact in my view. Which goes back to my Keegan point, if Keegan was here he'd have signed by now, absolute fact. We have an arsehole in Derek Llambias and his boss, with no affiliation to Newcastle or the area, talking brutal hard numbers with agents. Look at John Beresford man he turned down Liverpool and more money to come here BECAUSE of Keegan. FFS had the charm and selling ability, these don't. They're Reggie Perrin types the pair of them. Are you suggesting he's on 20k after tax in France? I hope at least that the club weigh how much they wanted Remy and the possibilities of alternatives when considering if they go back to him with an improved offer. I'm not suggesting QPR money, but something to bridge the gap a little could be enough to sway him back. Not suggesting that the club be held to ransom in any way, but at some point reality needs to be faced. If we don't have any viable alternatives on the go then the prospect of adding noone up front becomes very real and ultimately very scary.
Holden McGroin 6785
Anyone who has been on 20k a week for five years should be set up for life anyway, and Remy clearly has. It would be if they lived like normal people. The fact that a lot of footballers are broke now indicates a lot of them just live in the moment. If they had any nous about them they'd save/invest for the future. Even an average Championship footballer who gets £4-8k per week and has a 10 year career should have enough (with prudence) to live comfortably. Wasnt John Terry declared bankrupt a couple of years ago. He is on ~£120k per week. Edited January 15, 2013 by Holden McGroin

Aye. And If me brother had a fanny he'd be my sister. As it is though, his choice is the richest club in the league or the least ambitious. If Pardew were Keegan and sold him on what we were going to do (under Ashley) he'd be a liar.

They don't mind foreigners having money in Monaco, but they spit on the floor if they think you're French and filthy rich.
Anorthernsoul 1221
I think the wage situation in france was summed up perfectly by Remy Carbella's appearance on ESPN last week. He's one of the league winners most important players yet he lives in relatively poor accommodation in comparison to top level players over here.
