adios 717
United bid for Nihat Jan 8 2006 By Neil Farrington, The Sunday Sun Newcastle's bid for Nihat Kahveci was confirmed last night - and the Turkish striker wants a move to Tyneside. Real Sociedad star Nihat is ready to snub Spartak Moscow in favour of United, after the Magpies informed him of their interest. But Newcastle are yet to negotiate a price with Sociedad for the player, a close friend and international team-mate of summer signing Emre. "We have just started talks with Newcastle. They called me to ask about Nihat's situation," agent Ahmet Bulut told the Sunday Sun. "Spartak want him but his preference is to play in England. Between the two clubs, he would choose Newcastle." But Bulut - who brokered Emre's move to St James's Park - added: "Newcastle must first find an agreement with Real Sociedad." That may not be straightforward, with Spartak thought to have offered more than the £2 million that United are likely to bid for Nihat. Newcastle, on Emre's recommend- ation, eyed the 26-year-old long before a broken metatarsal robbed them of Michael Owen for an estimated three months. And Spartak's reluctance to meet Nihat's wage demands could yet work in United's favour. With Newcastle keen to land Chelsea's Wayne Bridge on loan and Charlton's Danny Murphy in a swap deal for Lee Bowyer, Nihat would probably be their only cash signing. But a move for the Turk would still suggest boss Graeme Souness will be given until the end of the season to turn things around at St James's. Meanwhile, Emre is hopeful of returning from injury to play a part in Newcastle's game at Fulham. Source
Gemmill 46027
I've never seen the bloke play, but N-O's network of Championship Manager scouts rave about him. Anyone got any idea what he's like in real life?
The Mighty Hog 526
He had an excellent season a couple of years ago. Barring that I don't know much about him.

snakehips 0
I don't know anything about him, but he is yet another one of these 'if he's only costing around £2m then he can't be that good' for me.
Brock Manson 0
At least at 2 million, he won't be such a gamble as Luque if he doesn't adjust to the premiership. Go for it, we need a striker and he's bound to be better than Ameobi and Chopra.
Emre 0
Maybe im dreaming but... hasnt he had a really bad injury recently? if i remember correctly chelsea were interested but didnt want to risk it incase he wasnt as good as before the injury... so a russian club(moscow perhaps?) that abramovich is linked with were gonna take him and if he develpoed move on to chelsea. as i say i could be thinking of someone else
Optimistic Nut 189
The people over on N-O are going waaaay over the top about him. I'm pretty sure if he was English and had done the same over in the Premiership the label "one-season wonder" would quickly become attached to him. However, for £2m, it's worth the gamble. Wor Al 0
He's only allowed one game.....if he dosen't play well, then we should sell the mercenary. Edited January 8, 2006 by Omar
Shearergol 0
He's only allowed one game.....if he dosen't play well, then we should sell the mercenary. 76151 Half a game imo, out of position. By the way, from what I've seen of him, he's not as good as Luque. So beware
adios 717
I know nothing about him but here's a compilation posted on the other side. Really only marginally better than Championship Manager stats for judging a player... He does look like he's got strength and pace, so would be worth a punt for 2m, but hadn't Spartak reportedly agreed to pay around 5m for him? TheInspiration 1
We're bidding that price because his contract runs out soon, no?
Mark 0
One season wonder. He needs to play alongside a big target man IIRC.

Ally 0
One season wonder. He needs to play alongside a big target man IIRC. 76239 He doesn't. He has played well with a big target man, doesn't mean his entire game is based on that. Both Bellamy and Baros have done well with big target men (Shearer and Koller) but you wouldn't say, especially with Bellamy, that he needs a big target man to be a good player.
