Jimbo 175
Milan have admitted that Christian Vieri can leave the club, as Newcastle United look set to join the race for his signature. Rossoneri chief Adriano Galliani has confirmed that Vieri's situation could be resolved in the next few says and admits he may need to leave the Giuseppe Meazza given it is a World Cup year. "He is torn and I understand his situation," admitted Galliani. "Vieri is very happy at Milan, but in a World Cup year, he would like to play more regularly. "This is an issue that will be decided over the next two to three days and will not drag on beyond that. "He is 33 years old and this will probably be his last World Cup, so he feels that he must safeguard that experience by playing more first-team football. "These are all perfectly understandable considerations." A host of clubs are interested in taking Vieri, ranging from Sampdoria in Serie A to La Liga outfits Espanyol, Real Mallorca and his former employers Atletico Madrid. However, England could be a strong lure and Italian sources are stating that Newcastle are now ready to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for Vieri's signature - as they look to find a short-term replacement for the injured Michael Owen. Should Vieri leave, then Milan could well be tempted to move into the transfer market for cover and the names already being linked are Lazio's Simone Inzaghi and Vincenzo Iaquinta of Udinese - who is another player said to be on Tottenham's wanted list. Brock Manson 0
Isn't he a bit of a dirty player? Maybe worth a shot IF we get a pacey striker (ie Nihat?) to play alongside him, so long as we don't pay over the odds.
Guest alex
A lumbering, immobile, over-the-hill striker at the Toon? Surely not
