ChezGiven 0
Going well in Europe, top half of the league and 3 points off the CL places. If we're shite then so is football.
McFaul 35
You'll never see NUFC win a game 5-0 with this side, but the positive is as discussed, we have a good shape and are very hard to break down.
Christmas Tree 4669
It's pretty much as it was last year. We could have gone 6th yesterday but for one sloppy goal conceded. On the pitch I see us as being as tough to beat as we were then and still winning more than we lose by tight margians, sometimes against the run of play. Been worse off with injuries this year too. CT's view seems to have gone from Pardew being capable of a Champions league (and title) push last season to a complete shambles of a man this season. Weird. Your missing the point tbh, our problems this year are self inflicted mainly due to the personnel / shape we are playing. Bordeaux was a shining example of what a difference we are when we have a threat down both wings. The forwards have better service, they use the space better creating more space for the likes of Cabaye to use which in turn makes out whole play look slicker. Tbh I'm going to stop rattling on about it. Amazes me how some dont see it. We have the personnel to but out a slick attacking team that should be able to create chances galore for the Cisses, leaving lots of opportunities for HBA and Cabaye to run riot and control things. We haven't done it this year and that's purely down to Pardew.

I never saw the Bordeaux game, but Ben Arfa didn't even play.
PaddockLad 16991
CT you're confusing a purple patch from Cisse (one of the best scoring runs in the top divison for 30 years, it was freakinsh, literally everythinghe hit went in whether it was a glaring chance or he conjured something unbeleiveable out of nothing) last spring with the whole of last season. Forget it mate, it wasnt all like that. Brighton,Fulham,Spur...regardless of personnel available they were all fuckin abysmal. A lot of ohers were merely "iffy"...v Bolton with 4th still a real possibility we were fuckin shocking too. Bordeaux?...look at squidwards last run out in the premier league and then look at the room he gets in Europe. Ben Arfa gets no room in league games but he's our best player because once or twice a game he'll dance past a defender or two and either create or score a goal himself. We're a slightly above average side. And we were last season too. If Ashley opens his wallet and brings in the players we need in January we'll have a good season iyam. ChezGiven 0
I agree with that PL. I'd add that some of the criticism of Pardew whilst unfair, is probably highlighting some real weaknesses. I think people know that Pardew wants us to be hard to beat first as winning, not playing with style, is his priority. Last season he said that he focused on getting us organised first before allowing us to play more expansively. However, this season, its not about gelling the 'group' together for the first time and forging relationships, partnerships and understanding. Its about consolidating the team ethics, commitment, organisation and the psychology of being the "5th" best team in the league (heavy on the quote marks). This changes how we approach each game, despite him insisting 'we are Newcastle, therefore we should try to win every game'. That might be true but as a statement it hides the complexity and specific nature of preparation for each game. In all of this, he has come up a wee bit short as the team performances have reflected. I could understand some of the criticism leveled at him last season but found it ridiculously naive and narrow-minded. Having seen what he achieved last season, i think he was won the right to be given the benefit of the doubt in his methods. He deserved it last season, now he has earned it. We'll see where we are at the end of January. A lot of my own analysis of him as a manager will depend on his persuasiveness with the owner to get him the defensive cover we so badly need. Craig 6670
To say Liverpool had a load of possesion and a load of shots, did they REALLY cause a MASSIVE threat and make Krul graft? Typical Rodgers team IMO. All hot air. I'd say it's typical Liverpool for the past 3 or 4 years actually - solid midfield but absolutely nothing in the final 3rd. Worryingly I reckon the yanks will address that though come January. If they'd spent £6m on Dempsey in August I reckon they'd be well up the table by now... They bossed the possesion but a combination of our solid defence and their awful attack meant the threat was worthless most of the game. Incidently they reckon that the challenge Colo made on Suarez in the first half wasn't a penalty but the 'handball' was? Was it just me who missed that?!?! Funniest moment had to be the sprinkler. Probably first time in a month some of those skanky trogs have had a shower tbf.

Craig 6670
Only saw MOD highlights. Hatem has lost his shooting boots. Thought he was off key with his dribbling tbh - lost out of few times on the flank (particularly first half) in a position that left us exposed. That said he absolutely made our goal in a moment of magic. Left Enrique with his arse hanging out...

NJS 4355
He looked old and knackered yesterday. I noted that as a highlight of the last home game.
