Do you think the iPad 4 will be sold out today?

or having properly researched the market leaders :D

iPad and iPhone are class mate, no one can deny that. People can get all geeky about processor speeds and screen resolution but I can guarantee 99% of people couldn't and wouldnt see any benefit with a Nexus over Apple product. Add in all the apps for apple and its easy to see why they have the markets share of customers

75% of all phones sold in Q3 2012 were on Android. Tell me again who has the majority market share.

What seems to be a recurring theme is that people who prefer Apple have never tried Android. People who have tried both prefer Android.

If you compared each individual Android phone vs iPhone I'd be shocked if any one single one sold more than the iPhone... fair few phones run android if I'm not mistaken and so I'd guess thats why those figures come out that way. That old saying about being able to prove owt with stats.

At the end of the day I use Apple products and am satisfied with them... If that's the case I'd have to be a bit of a geek to start switching to other brands just for 5% better processing power or resolution on the 50% less apps it had, just so I could go "ha yeah but look at me I shunned Appple for a 9% larger screen and that makes me uber cool... now form a queue to suck me off ladies as it's going to be mayhem otherwise".

Honestly don't see any benefit going Android or Nexus etc... it's fine is you don't already own an iPhone or iPad but if you own one then you actually get less benefit from buying a different brand as they won't sync and any apps you buy you have to buy twice if you want to use them on both devices.

There's that whole 'it's cool to hate Apple' vibe from a lot of people but at the end of the day it's just a bit of a geeky toy either way and if anyone really cares that much about it they are a nerdy virgin ;)

You always show up when someone dares suggest an alternative to Apple products.

Not really, don't think i've been in the android thread or anything. I genuinely don't care what other people like and i've had more android phones than Apple. I have a Windows laptop and think the Nexus is a class tablet. Andy wanted an iPad and theres people acting like he's just come out and said he's off to buy a PDA

That's the whole point for me. You're locked in to one company that supplies both your hardware and OS, which hasn't improved significantly in several years. It's monopolistic and ultimately an unhealthy business model imo (I know others disagree). There's just not the same sense of tie in with Android and the hardware is more individual, powerful, and better value. The last bit is often seized by Jobbites (rip) to suggest users of other systems earn less etc which is just ridiculous and shows the mindset of some Apple fanatics.

Fwiw, I much prefer the oneX to the 4s and have direct experience of both. Also, contrary to Ant's assertions, I much preferred my Sony walkman to my wifes iPod for many, many reasons.

Ateotd, it's nice to have choice and Apple stifle this whilst at the same time make visiting their shops an uncomfortable experience.

More class shown by Apple today - having been ordered to put the Samsung notice back on their website (for acting like bairns the first time), they are now using scripts to auto-resize their homepage to make sure that you have to scroll down to get to the link. Basically ensures that your average visitor to the website won't see the link.

They've played this spectacularly wrong. Didn't the judgement say the iPad was 'cooler'? They should have seized on that.

What drivel. You've been on here loads making similar flippant remarks about Android phones. I've had an iPhone but now I'm on Android I prefer that. Don't see the point mind in the way some go on about what's better.

Doesn't really bother me being tied in, at the end of the day if it works for me then I don't really need it to change much.

One of the main things for me is definitely the 'perception of cool'. Hand an ipad to a potential client and they think 'oooh an ipad'... hand them a different tablet and they think 'couldn't he afford an ipad?'... not good when you are trying to convince them that you're the kind of guy who spends serious money on serious kit to do the job as well as possible.

You've got to be joking.

Why would your client give a shit about what brand of tablet you show them?

Apple might offer you what you want now, but my point is post Jobs I don't think you can guarantee that in the future. The internal competition in the Android market will drive innovation imo; there's no competition within Apple.

If you're doing a wedding for a couple of normal people who don't read every word on CNET, then it's probably spot on that they'll be more impressed by an Ipad than a Nexus to be fair.

....which is the benefit to those of us that don't pay the "cool" premium that others do for an inferior product.

Exactly mate... if people can recognise the brand and it's 'cool factor' then they will be more likely to associate my work and brand with the same 'cool factor'. They may also think the other photographer had an iPad where as I have a seemingly inferior product because they haven't heard of it and it feels different... regardless of whether the product is actually better or not.

It's all about perceptions at the end of the day.

Rubbish. I don't even think Apple is especially an aspirational brand any more they're so common. All I'd be interested in would be the quality of your work.

Really? I would disagree completely tbh... you might not see Apple as a cool or aspirational brand but most people do.

I can image giving a regular Joe Blogg's an iPad and they'll be buying in to the cool factor straight away which is something they wouldn't do with a Nexus for example.

On the other hand a techie might look at me in disgust and throw me out of his house :D

Apple is cool, most people think so... I can guarantee that if you asked 100 people to name any tablet other then an iPad about 85% would struggle.

 Still desperate to have the best device?

Here's a basic story about the power of Apple's business. All over the world millions of young parents share the same simple story of modern life. These parents have children under the age of 4. These parents all have children who do exactly the same thing. They put their fingers on real photos and try to swipe to the new one. They swipe pages of a book without trying to turn the page. They put their fingers on TV screens and try to swipe a new image or push an icon with their fingers.

A revolution in technology occurred and Apple created it by having the commercial ability to make it happen. The Nexus 10 is better and i can say that as i am a moron who buys into Spec wars.
