One thing we're going to need in Ashley's brave new world where we may get seasons like 2010/11 is a hell of a lot of paticence. We're not going to get the players we need when we need them with Ashley, anyone who has let this slip from their mind is serously misreading him and the club's situation. And as it was good enough last season, I dont get why people who showered the regime with praise 6 months ago are having nervous breakdowns this morning. Nothings changed. Oh, I agree btw. Dr Gloom 21917 Posted November 12, 2012 Share Posted November 12, 2012 pardew hasn't done too much different this season to last, other than not playing 4-4-2 and sticking ba out wide on the left. that in itself is a problem because the two of them have looked crap together as a front two, taking up the same positions, and because neither of them are dropping deep, we end up playing way too many aimless long balls. i wouldn't blame pardew too much though. another big problem is we haven't had colo, tiote and krul on the field enough at the same time. they're the spine that held the team together last season. the main issue is we didn't buy the players needed in the summer window. we got lucky last season with how few injuries we had. All I can offer you is my opinion on that statement. We started the season with (virtually) the same squad. None of the big players were sold. Its the style of play that has changed. Ba's situation has caused Pardew to try and patch together a team and formation that has continually back fired all season. His over cautious approach has left us on the back foot rather than the front. This has worn down the moral of the team and the confidence of individuals. We are now left with a sorry, nervy bunch taking to the field who seem devoid of any ideas to turn it around. While the regime, recruitment policy are linked, IMO they are not solely responsible for the way we have lined up or the attitude we have taken onto the pitch. That finger points firmly at Pardew. Lots would have been quite happy at the recruitment of Debuchy and maybe more defensive cover. That in itself would not have changed the horror performances that we are witnessing week in week out. Im not joing Monroe Transfers Pardew out campaign just yet, but the penny needs to drop with him pretty quickly and he has to do whats right for the team, not individuals. If he died today I wouldn't shed any tears. I don't think there's a chairman in football who has received ridiculous amounts of praise for NOT selling players like he has from Pards. I can't even think of a parallel, and being praised for giving the manager pennies to spend when it's never enough. "I have to fank Mike for the £5m investment he's given me on Anita." Last season we loved how the greedy journey men had been replaced with a great group of young lads and a team full of spirit etc etc All we kept hearing was "next window he'll cash in on Tiote, Krul, Cabaye, Ben Arfa etc..... Colocinni will never get a new deal etc etc" No one was sold and our captain got his new contract. It seems Debuchy (and a few others) were our main recruitment targets and they didnt come off. Some would have been happy with third and fourth choice panic buys. Remember last August when we would have taken anybody as a striker but the club held out for their fist choice in Cisse. He DOES have it though, I agree. He had a barren spell at Freiburg of similar proportions. He is the classic hot and cold striker. Lineker and Owen were the same. I dont think anyone was particularly missing Carrol last season and I dont think many though Nolan was worth a four year deal. Most were quite happy with their replacements Ba, Cisse and Cabaye. The fact is I agree largely with a lot of that, but not about the effect its having on the team.How many times did a player beat the West Ham right back yesterday?....I counted 6 times in the second half. That should be 3 goals. Someone from midfield shouldve been in the spaces where the ball was being put into. So either Cabaye is being told to hold back or he cant be arsed to attack. Or without Tiote he doesnt trust Anita to shut the door on a counter attack. So its either Cabayes heed being turned or a tactical fuck up or we're missing the suspended Tiote, who's abscnece is self inflicted, his rep precedes him now. The real, truly depressing thing for me is if we hadnt targeted the hopelsss WH rightback, if we had acheived no penetration down that flank because of the weakness of that player. Thats what wins games against tight sides like the ones Allardyce put out.Its not all Brazil 70 man. We acheived what we set out to do, target the right back, we just couldnt finish it because probably a mixture of the things I mentioned. Great decision Jan - May Nice and easy to blame the "regime" for our current woes but way off the mark imo. the blame lies with ashley because he holds the purse strings. the lack of investment in the summer was unacceptable given all the extra games we've got in europe this season. we had a real chance to build on last season's success which was largely down to not picking up many long term injuries. the first choice 11, minus steven taylor, played most games over the course of the season. it was obvious we got lucky in that respect because despite having a good bunch of players, the squad depth is wafer thin. this driving a hard bargain transfer policy is great when it works but sometimes money needs to be invested when and where it's needed. holding back for the bargain buy will end up in more situations like this one where we're under strength.
