Newcastle Utd vs West Brom

Utter utter shite. I think Pards must've been on the LSD last night, it summed up Pards poor selection, that Shola (?!?) in a right back position played their centre forward onside for the goal. Fucking woeful. We are so lucky. So, so, so lucky, but I don't feel guilty. Perch in midfield man, how many sides will we play where we "dominate the midfield" with that League One standard plodder there. Nee wonder at times we were reduced to long ball in the first half.

The malaise is slowly being revealed without the wonder strikes of last year. I knew we would come out the second half and tip tap around just cause we were one up. That's Pardew in a nutshell.

People on NO are questioning the training methods as if internationals don't know how to pass and move.

There are times when P is defensive and rightly so but today a goal to the good we should have got after them.

err...what about the rest of what I said?...does none of that come into it and you just feel the players "really need to sort themselves out" ?......best to judge the season as a whole and not just on a bad trot of games. We've not performed to the standards we set last spring, thats for sure. Did we play better or worse today than we did when Brighton put us out of the cup last season?...fuckin Brighton man! Today wasnt great but this season still holds a lot of promise, theres no need for kneejerking iyam. West Brom are decent, but they couldnt finish us off despite us being shite.

Good post.

Been a mediocre start to the season is all. No need for the hysterics. We're only 3 points off Everton who've had such a great start to the season.

If anything the fact we're picking up points as we are without playing anything like at our best bodes well for us. The team is capable of more than they're producing and I'm sure it'll click into place soon enough like it did last season.

Mr Conspiracy Theorist is calling me deluded?

What was your post about? Yeah it'll come good we just have to wait till 2018.

Pardew is being too negative when he doesn't have to. He showed last year when he took his pinny off that the side can play a bit.

Now he's saying he needs all week to prepare for a game of football. That uber fit professionals are tired cause of 2 games a week or summink.

God knows.

We are right up with the pack and are playing average. I'd say that's a good sign of how far we have come to be honest.

If we had played average just a few years ago, we would be sat at the bottom looking grim, yet we all know that this team has a few more gears to step up to.

'We' were told all last season that we were lucky and it would run out soon enough.

This is like cheese on toast without the tabasco or the lea and perrins or the cheese and the toaster is broken.

He can do better, there were games last year where he made a difference to the set up and attitude of the side it was clear to all.

I just don't understand why he's gone back in his shell.

It's all very strange to me.

Some people see poor performances and roll out excuse after excuse, week after week, about how it is about to come good.

When player x returns..... Bla bla bla.

It's also no good comparing this season to last. We finished 5th last season so expectations are naturally raised.

The problem is purely and simply Pardews selection.

Ba's refusal to play out left in a 433 this season has seen Pardew buckle and try various formations selections to keep a few players happy.

Pardew is the problem. It's as clear as fucking day.

If he wants to play 442 then it's simple. Play people out wide who can create.

If its 433, then either make Ba play on the left of the three or play him central, drop Cisse and play someone else on the left.

I think it's also a no brainer that Santon should be starting on the right and Ferguson on the left.

Pardew is bottling all the big decisions and using Europe as an excuse.

It's really spoiling my season.

Not everyone. We were 4th so lots of people wouldnt have it that performance could be questioned.

If over the last 9 games just 2 chances that unluckily went wide had gone in, we'd be 4th now.

Anyway, what are you trying to say? That those people pointing to our league position were wrong in some way?

So the players themselves are not at fault?

You've forgotten the golden rule, winning = players, losing = manager.

Tbf, I think Parky has a point about Pardew I just think the dynamics of motivation, expectation and approach to games this season is very different so the manager needs a whole new set of tools. However, deconstructing management into 'he should have a go' is never insightful.

No. Balance of the team is everything.

A well balanced team allows every member to play at their best.

The midfield no they can pass it out and that the wide players can move forward and create / open morse spaces for the central midfield to go into .

The forwards no that quality balls will come in and therefore get used to making great runs to either receive the ball or drag defenders away.

This is football st it's best yet simplest.

This is why players like Cabaye are playing like a shadow of the way they should be playing.

Balance.

Some good points CT. I think Cabaye has to do too much and that is due to a lack of balance. Would have played Bigi instead of Perchino Rivas Coutinho Merchado today. Not that he did anything wrong just that Bigi looks like he wants to play more inventive passes.

It's know by the way.

As you say you didn't watch today. First half was pretty good, we scored one and had at least 3 good chances, one a sitter that Ba should be putting away.

Second half we fell apart (as Pardew acknowledged), the players were playing some horrific passes though which has absolutely nothing to do with training or tactics, others were there to accept the pass but they were woefully misplaced or under-hit. Not sure what a manager can do about that.

I don't like the way we played in the second half one bit btw, just think there is more to it than poor managerial decisions. Lakuka (sp?) was always going to score today as well, he is a very good young player and was creating some very good opportunities for himself with fantastic movement.
