No, I mean wingers. A 442 does not traditionally have wingers - side midfielders yes, wingers no.

You can use wingers in a 4-4-2. We've done it successfully through the years with players like Ginola, Gillespie, Robert...

And that's why you'd have complaints about Robert as you can't really play exclusively as a winger in a traditional 442. Anyway, don't want to be argumentative as they do play down the flanks/wings so in some ways it's semantics but winger is a different position to side midfielder.
