Hebburn

Thought this was worthy of a thread of its own.

Hebburn is a warm and affectionate tale of north east family life. It tells the tale of the Pearson family and their impetuous and ambitious son, Jack, who has left Tyneside for the bright lights and glamour of Manchester. He has secretly married a middle class Jewish girl, Sarah, and realises that it is about time he introduced her to his family.

Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves) and Gina McKee play Jason's parents, Joe and Pauline, who are devoted to their family and their hometown.

Jan Ravens and Phil Nice star as Sarah's parents, Susan and Ben, who have to contend with their daughter marrying into a family from a very different background.

Other characters include Jack's fun-loving sister Vicki; his Grandmother, Dot, who likes to keep everyone 'up to speed' on her bowel movements; Sarah's hippy sister, Marial; Jack's 'larger than life' friend, Big Keith; and Vicki's best friend, Denise and her boyfriend Gervaise.

Writer Jason Cook also stars in the series as 'Ramsey', a friend of Jack.

Really looking forward to this as I've saw him live about 5 times and every time he's been absolutely fantastic. Especially as I've only saw him locally and all of his humour has been Tyneside centric so I'm sure we'll all be able to relate to it in someway.

Aye, got this series linked, looking forward and I really hope it goes well for Jason, more than for Chris Ramsey.

The former is a really good comic and this could be a great springboard for him. The latter has the right face/hair/style to be popular these days, whether he's funny or not. (Ramsey is good, fwiw, but it's not as hard for him as it would be for Jason Cook.)

First episode was embarrassing, it's a poor man's shameless with oranges slags

a Gran who will mention death in every sentence, a lovable thief, who I'd pay to punch in the face and a smoggie with a bad Geordie accent. I'd be worried if I owned a house in Hebburn as this ridiculous "comedy" will do nothing for the price of a Hebburn home.

Cringe-worthy. YUK !

Don't think it's too bad. Sat with the in-laws and watched the first two episodes last night. laughs from all corners of the room.

I proper guffawed when he said to the waitress "Howay then, do the specials" and she started up Ghost Town.

...and when the gran went for a shit and said she was off to free the slaves. :D

It was all very broad like. More My Family than The Royle family. Annoying everyone is a thick fucker apart from the lad that hates home and his southern bint.

I reckon it could be a grower.

I think it's pretty good tbh... I reckon some of the humour will be lost on some people up here as it's very much using stereotyping as a means for cheap laughs against North Easterners... however not being a Geordie or Mackem I think it's pretty spot on despite being obviously going to the extreme end of the spectrum with regards the way some people around here behave and act. Can imagine people from hebburn find it quite insulting and also many others around the region thinking it's shit, but for those of us not native to the region and know people who live over Shields way then it's fuckin hilarious as quite a lot rings true (albeit over exagerated).
