Overpayment by YouGov

So I just got this e-mail:

 

Dear Meenzer,

 

Our records show that we recently made a transfer of £50 to your account in return for all your help on our surveys. The transfer was made on the 24th September and will have been in your account shortly afterwards. Unfortunately it would seem due to a system error we made a second payment to your account on the 12th October, which should have reached you today.

 

We would be very grateful if you could return the second payment of £50 to us by whatever means is most convenient for you – either as a bank transfer or as a cheque.

 

In the case of a Bank Transfer please use the following account details:

Now I'm sure I will return the second payment, if only to stop them from hassling me as they undoubtedly will if I don't (although it pains me to reward an organisation for their own incompetence). But I was just wondering, more out of curiosity than anything else, if anyone knows what the legal situation is in terms of whether I'd technically have to? I suppose it'll be buried away in the terms and conditions somewhere, but whether that kind of thing is enforceable or not...

I wonder how much this is gonna cost them, cos they must have just repeated a full payment run. Spanners.

 

Don't have an answer to the legal question, but I bet there's LOADS of people that won't be sending them the cash back.

The temptation is certainly there to reply "Sacked in the morning, you're getting sacked in the morning..."

Been overpaid by approx £600 by the child tax credits on two separate dates from last year. Just had the two letters arrive within a day of each other. Anytime there's a 'change of circumstance' they get informed and presumably adjust it accordingly. Fucking hopeless these tax credits people.
