What exactly is the point in comparing success in the League Cup with the time before the European Cup became the all-important 'top 4' era Champions League in the context of the current question? It's the change in emphasis of a top 4 finish which is precisely why the League Cup became an utterly irrelevant trophy. Whens that then? Cos the champions league used to be top 2, then 3, then 4. That's the point where league places started to become more important than the League Cup. If you want to recompile the list for just the last 8 years, I don't think you'll find any difference frankly. For the first 5 years of the champions league only the champions of each nation qualified......I've got a first class stamp here, do you want it so you can write down what you know about football on the back of it?....
