Construction to start on new St James’ Park corporate boxes

CLUB chiefs at Newcastle United have started work on six new corporate boxes inside St James’ Park after a surge in demand after the team’s recent revival.

Construction will begin on a 20-seater suite and five 10-person rooms immediately in the hope of completing the work in time for the clash with Manchester United on October 7.

Built at the Leazes End, the hospitality boxes come complete with match day meals, a hostess and a balcony that opens out on to the ground.

All 87 of the current executive boxes in the Milburn Stand and South West corner of the ground have already been secured by Newcastle fans.

It is the first time in a decade that the demand for the service has reached such levels as Newcastle fans hungry for European action and Premier League football shell out for the privilege.

The last time the club saw such a scramble for boxes was during the 2002/03 season when Sir Bobby Robson guided the Magpies into the Champions League.

New boxes will be available for the remainder of the 2012/13 season, or a single match basis for all home games.

Last night Sharon Fletcher, head of corporate sales at Newcastle United, said: “The six new boxes are going to be built in time for the game with Manchester United. One of my colleagues has already sold one of the boxes for the season and we’re taking enquiries all the time.

“I’m trying my best to sell one to Ant and Dec so they can come and watch the game with Manchester. It’s an excellent way to watch the game – if you’ve got clients you’ve got your own captive audience. We’ve not built boxes since the 1999/2000 season, so 12 years ago. People from QPR and Fulham have also been calling to see if they can get away games.”

Category A matches – against the top teams, plus Sunderland – will be priced at £4,000 while a box for the rest of the season comes in at £25,000. Club chiefs are already working to fill the new boxes ahead of Alan Pardew’s next home clash. Category C games are priced at £2,000 but to pick up a 10-seater box for the rest of the season will cost more than £25,000.

Ms Fletcher said: “It’s fantastic news the club have decided to build the new Leazes Boxes. The designs and specifications look absolutely fantastic. Obviously Alan Pardew has got the team playing some great stuff on the pitch recently which has helped us a lot, but a big thank you must go to all of our corporate clients who have still supported the club when times in the economy are still tough.”

Too cheap. I'd say 32k was about right.

The Spurs cost band is 42k to 60k.

Three games gone though, and where they're situated is the worst place for boxes, so you're 32k pro rata shout might be right

Sounds a bit strange to me, unless its just a refurb of the exisitng (empty?) ones at th Leazes End. The article only mentions full boxes in the Milburn and South West Corner.

Nar they've halfed the sports bar behind where I sit, to fit boxes in.

Apparently a swarthy looking bloke wearing white robes and sunglasses was seen asking about boxes as he fancied an adventure in England. Sheik MaHeed I think his name was.

I was hoping for Sheikh YerMoney
