Christmas Tree 4839
Rip FORMER Newcastle United chief executive Freddie Fletcher has died. The 71-year-old, of Darras Hall, is credited with transforming the fortunes of the club during the early 1990s and appointing manager Kevin Keegan. He passed away last night from asbestos-related cancer which he was diagnosed with in January. Former chairman of Newcastle United, Sir John Hall, who worked with Freddie for 26 years, said: "He was instrumental to the success of Newcastle United. It's sad to think we have lost a truly great friend. What he did behind the scenes was invaluable. My condolences go to his wife Margaret and family."
