Rip

FORMER Newcastle United chief executive Freddie Fletcher has died.

The 71-year-old, of Darras Hall, is credited with transforming the fortunes of the club during the early 1990s and appointing manager Kevin Keegan.

He passed away last night from asbestos-related cancer which he was diagnosed with in January.

Former chairman of Newcastle United, Sir John Hall, who worked with Freddie for 26 years, said: "He was instrumental to the success of Newcastle United. It's sad to think we have lost a truly great friend. What he did behind the scenes was invaluable. My condolences go to his wife Margaret and family."

Often forgotten when we think of the fortune we had under SJH. FF though said to be a twat, was massive in what we achieved. RIP.
