Dzeko somehow scuffs the ball over a sliding defender. 2-1 Southampton, man city deserve absolutely fuck all from this at the moment. Southampton have put in some shift I think they'll pay for that in the second half

Y'know, I think this is as much to do with Man City being shocking as it is to do with Southampton playing well... I feel like they've been this way for a few weeks now as well, ever since that defeat to QPR.

Villa have been hugely criticised all season long, written off many times, and yet are only 3 points behind us and Southampton.

Don't get me wrong, we've got the personnel to increase that gap (whereas they haven't) and I'm sure we'll be fine, but it's still not a pleasant sight.

Villa have been hugely criticised all season long, written off many times, and yet are only 3 points behind us and Southampton.

Similarly, Fulham have been criticsed this season. It's because those two club are underacheiving in the eyes of the media. Another example is sunderland are accused of having a poor season and Norwich a good one, yet Norwich finished higher than sunderland last season, played the better football and did so on a smaller budget.

The story that the press constructs bears little resemblance to the actual story of this Premier League season.

Villa need 14pts from a possible 36 to surpass last season's tally, Wigan need 22. Still reckon Wigan have a better chance than Villa of surviving. Not because of the romanticised Wigan, but because looking at the remaining games, and their respective squads, Wigan have the ability to pul themselves out of the mire again.

Villa have 4 of the top 5 to play, plus Liverpool, Stoke and Fulham. Never mind facing teams in and around them who're better suited to the rigours of relegation fights.

Wigan have only really got City and Arsenal where I can't see them getting anything. Every other game there are the possibility of games. Given their previous performances in the tail end of the season I can definitely see them limping over the line with just enough points to survive.

Still think it's QPR, Villa and Reading to go down, but if Villa survive this year and don't receive a vast transfer kitty fro their owner they'll be gone next time around.

Metalist drew 1-1 with Whitley Bay today.

This result is entirely irrelevent but will be a source of undue optimism, or pessimism for many, many people.
