JawD 99
Thought that was normal student life. Actually the real stories are funnier. He discovered his flatmate was gettting money from the parents and so started writing them for more money which he would skim from his flatmate. He spent a lot of it on a suit and a cane to go and watch his fav opera's (Wagner). Then when they got home he would be in a energised and manic state and would sit up all night making his mate play the piano... He actually met Wagner later in life didn't he. The more I've read of him I just keep thinking "fruit loop" and yes perhaps a little "megalomaniac" but little "genius". Incidentally, as you'll know, he also studied symbolism and later designed (with many revisions) the swastika, all of which had several representations (the colours and shape etc). I can't recall it exactly but something to do with nationalists and socialists.
luckyluke 2
The position he led Germany to?? I assume you mean before the country was split up after being seriously fucked. Let me know when you've inspired and led a wounded and humiliated country crippled with debt and sanctions to the point of being a great military power that controlled nearly all of Europe, obtaining near godlike reverence from its subjects. 'Genius' is perhaps overstating it a bit but dismissing his achievements would be a very dangerous thing to do.

He started the day about 11am with readings from his astrologer for the day, took a few meets with commanders and so on and then fiddled around with pie in the sky ideas about re-designing Berlin and Paris with Speer (he loved Paris)...Then off to lunch about 1pm...Would return about 3 only to take the dog for long walks. If he was to give a speech in the eve his doc would come and give him amphetamine shots. Much like my day really.

Howmanheyman 33282
Having a bit of charisma,a loud voice and a hugo boss outfit counts as genius?.....he was the biggest confidence trickster in history iyam. I've no doubt he beleived the shite espoused but to get an entire nation to go along with it for 10 years or so was nowt more than a trick. Clever-ish, but genius?....naah. I think in those days once you got the popular vote in a crippled country and had the threat of death/concentration camps by his followers hanging over you he didn't need to do much conning, mate. You mean spent money he didn't have in re arming and building an infrastructure for war. His great economic plan meant they had to go to the destructive war because outherwise they would have ended up worse off than they were before he came to power. 1929 was his great leap of poularity by co incidence the year of the wall street crash. It was also a year after he almost bankrupted his Party with the costs of parades and rallies if not for a benefactor the party would have been barred from the following elections. Hitlers whole economic recovery meant war was inevitable so you can't say he was great for that without concluding that he was an idiot for leading Germanty into a war they could not win. German industrialists did all the economic planning and were rubbing their hands at the re-armament plans.
