Howmanheyman 33826
Read something about Recruiters being put off hiring someone if they aren't on Facebook here, http://stage.money.a...rm-your-career/ then read about how Recruiters check other social network sites when looking to hire someone here, http://www.mediabist...ruitment_b18594 . Does anyone on here have experience of this either by being hired by this method or hired others themselves through looking at Facebook etc? Should I just join facebook and paste my CV on it or is this just an exaggerated story? The first site/story implies that Recruiters think people who aren't on these social networks have something to hide and then happen to mention that the nutter who shot the people at the pictures wasn't on fb. (Now we know why he did it!) Anyway, just interested what the score is and also wondering if anyone else isn't on fb/twitter?
NJS 4411
I'm not on Facebook and never intend to be - I'd suggest using Linkedin for "professional" networking.
Andrew 4856
seems exaggerated to me, Ive heard of people missing out because of a negative online presence but not for simply not having one like NJS says, if you just want something for professional stuff only use Linkedin, it played a big part in me getting my job
Brock Manson 0
On Facebook but keep it to limited profile so no-one I don't know goes snooping. I'll never use twitter, it's absolute shite.
Meenzer 15716
I'd tend to file this in the same drawer as "employers prefer people with 2:1s to those with first-class degrees because it shows they had a social life too".

NJS 4411
Because its shite. Well I'm an unsociable bastard in general but if you are someone who isn't afraid to "network" properly and chase down all the links then it can work for you. I know people who have used it to find jobs. It also helped me to get back in touch with a good mate I hadn't seen for years - I know FB serves that same purpose but I'd rather not have twats from school knocking on my door as it were. PaddockLad 17643
As a contractor, no one's ever offered me anything via facebook. I've uploaded my CV to the websites of dozens of recruiters though, and they either phone or more usually nowadays email or text when theyre looking to exploit me offer me work. Am not on Twitter either, mostly because of some of the disturbing things I've read on it via these pages. Am sure its controllable, and it appears you can read it without contributing yourself, and no doubt it can do a lot of good, but because of TT I think its an even bigger haven for complete bell ends than facebook, and that, as am sure some of you will agree, is saying something

NJS 4411
I found regeistering with individual recruiters on their websites to be generally a waste of time - if you are looking for work then I still think Jobserve is the best.

I wouldn't want to be involved with a recruiter if that's how they work. At the end of the day they are using you to make money so if they think they can get you the job I would imagine that's the main thing.
NJS 4411
From the comments on one of the links: The U.S.A. is the most dictatorial state on earth and is totally controlled by zionist Israel and the Rothschids!!! Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg who is a "Sayan" (hebrew: helper) of the israeli secret service Mossad, who have assasinated tenthousands of people, including Lady Di and Robin Cook!Signing up to Facebook is completly stupid, as by doing so anything you agree that any private e-mail you send can be used against you in court!!! In Germany a man was arrested for admitting on Facebook that he often drives faster than the speed limit alows!!! There was no evidence against him, but his e-mail on Facebook... He lost his licence! DO NOT SIGN UP ON FACEBOOK, OR CANCELL YOUR ACCOUNT, UNLESS YOU WANT TO LIVE ON A PRISON PLANET!!! RESIST THE NEW WORLD ORDER!!! At least we can establish Parky has a web presence. Howmanheyman 33826
Just had a look on jobserve and this is the message my jobsearch got; 'No matching jobs found' (I'm not looking by the way as although I'd love to do something different I feel I'm stuck in the type of job I'm in unless I fancy a pay cut. Just found the story interesting).
McFaul 35
I'll tell you now, people doing the interviewing are just as likely to ask how big your cock is, as are you on facebook. Trust me I've worked in the game 5 and a half year and it's totally irrelevant, if you can do a job and aren't a mug that is almost the be all and end all. JawD 99
I couldn't care if someone used FB or whatever, but if someone posted really dodgy shite on their FB it could go against them. It's not unheard of to stick someone's name in to FB to see if you can find them. Keep your profile hidden

See what you mean now, got to agree with NJS that someone having you in for an interview and maybe asking " and why aren't you on facebook Mr Xxxx?!" will more than likely receive short shrift from your good self, and me for that matter. Maybe its important to get a rounded view of of a candidate in the corporate/management world, but any kid with half a brain either makes their facebook profile complelely private so no fucker can see it anyway or doesnt have it, to avoid the likelyhood of the images of the Thomas Cook rep from Malia with her tits out being seen by the general public. In our own noble blue collar, "son of the soil" working enviroments though mate I wouldve thought that it would be irrelevent to any employer seeing photos you and Mrs Howman with the bairns at Tynemouth. But I'm not a recruiter, am sure Stevie can advise you better....if he's still in that game, and not become a professional twitter stalker. Wonder if he does that in work time? Gejon 2
At Sky my manager got sacked because he said he was going home then someone saw his daughter thank him on FB for taking her shopping. Glad I work in a unionised place now. One of our top managers apparently worked for the first company to ever sack someone over Facebook use. He started sending friend requests to loads of random plebs so one of the lower grade managers reported him to HR I have worked with some morons though, one had her manager on facebook but still spent every weekend (including Sunday nights) going on about being 'soo stoned' or 'sooo drunk' then would come into work and fall asleep at her desk. This was brought up with her so she went to the Drs because she couldn't work out why she was so tired all the time
