The world was happy thinking along your lines so why spend all this effort convincing the world of a lie? Take power from the church? It's not enough to tax us to pay for all the stuff we can see, they need to lie to us to pay for the stuff we can't see too. Also, why does the US, a predominantly low tax country, have the biggest space programme? Why would the former USSR participate?
