The new manager effect and England

Thinking about how often a new manager brings a run of decent results. Happened with Chelsea recently, Dalglish could do no wrong for his first few games in charge, now Hodgson.

We often do well in qualifying but maybe there is something in sacking your manager just before a tournament! I'm half joking but the thought just crossed my mind!

could the fact woy's english have anything to do with it? the football's generally been quite dire but the players at least look like they give a shit, which wasn't often the case under capello and sven.

if you read this book, Davies says Sven is not what he seems. He isn't such a cold fish, and the players all thought highly of him.

It's a good book, for the most part. It nails a few myths, one of which was that the players didn't believe in Keegan, he says that when Kevin resigned, some players were in tears and tried to persuade him to change his mind.

Personally, I think McLaren was a mistake, and Hoddle screwed himself up when he was growing into the job.

A new manager often brings about a run of good results as players sometimes up their game to

get in the new managers good books, this works until the players suss out the new boss doesn't rate or want them. Then the results go back to the level that got the previous manager the sack, normally about 7 -10 games.

But that is for domestic managers, for Internationals them 7-10 games could just win a tournament ?

In Roy we trust.

Roy's selection and tactics don't exactly thrill me, especially sticking with Rooney and Young, despite both of them being terrible. Seems like a nice enough bloke though, so he has lots of potential for the future since he seems able to get the players on-side.

If only he'd do a 4-3-3 with Carroll up front and stop it with the hard-on for shite Liverpool and Man U players.
