They mentioned on radio at HT that the FA had squared the band with Platini's lot, they gt to the ground and were told to shove it

Doesn't that Helen Chamberlain bloke 'play' in the band too ?

She plays the skin flute I think

Passable for a first game in the tournament. Hopefully we won't go for the same defensive outlook against Ukraine and Sweden.

I thought Milner was pretty poor, but we're so short of midfield options that I'm not sure who I'd play instead. France lacked a real out and out forward. Benzema didn't really contribute except for a few long-range shots. Debuchy looked really good though, same with Cabaye.

I'm a little concerned that Carroll didn't make it on. He's the best "Plan B" that we have and Plan A wasn't working too well today so I would've liked to have seen him.

All in all not terrible. We can do better.

Good result. England seem different to me? Lacking the cunt factor maybe.

Aye I thought that

Milner was poor but played one decent ball in. Young was poor, didnt offer any outlet, but that maybe because we were sat waaaay too deep.

Good result for us. Important to get something from the opening game and settle everyone down. On another day Hart saves that strike from Nasri (just tickled his fingers saw it late). France are one of the better sides in the tournament and expected to get to the semis so no shame. Would have liked us to push up 10 yards. Good experience for the young lads. Hats off to Hodgson for starting OxO.

I agree. Don't think we look particularly good but there was something approaching a team spirit at times.

we were way better than i thought we'd be but we gave the ball away far too easily - nothing new there.

the side was organised and compact, and we restricted france to few chances. easy to see why we were set up to be that cautious given it was the first game and against france. but i'd like to see a bit more adventure in the next games.

walcott or defoe should start ahead of milner next game.

and i still can't quite work out how we got to the point where henderson is first choice reserve centre mid.

PS - it's a pretty negative way to set up the side but that's modern football for you. chelsea just won the champions league playing like that. the stats/chances column look appalling but when you reduce the opposition to so few clear cut chances, you have to say it's a plan well executed, albeit not the most exciting or stylish brand of football.

I'd give Walcott a run out.
