I think we've missed every part of Cabaye's game, though it has allowed Bigi to get a game I suppose - as part of a duo of DM's which Tiote/Cabaye never really was - when it was at it's best anyway.

Hey, sorry to post on this thread but didn't know where else to put it, just trying to get my blog out there for people to see, mainly because I would love some feedback from fellow NUFC fans! There's a bit in this article about the imminent signing of Debuchy amongst other things, so if you're free and don't mind taking a gander I'd be very much appreciative! :D

Top rate of tax possibly going up to 75% in France is only going to increase the flow of players from their league. It was given a setback couple of days ago but they want to continue pushing for it. If it happens then a lot of players will look to move.

http://www.themag.co...h-debuchy-deal/

Following yesterday’s reports of Mathieu Debuchy’s agreed deal with Newcastle United and imminent signing, the move will surely have other not so hidden benefits.

Alan Pardew recently announced that Yohan Cabaye is ahead of schedule and could be available in mid-January, or as it is know these days, mid-January transfer window.

With Newcastle’s form & league position and Demba Ba’s imminent departure, the last thing we would need is vultures sniffing around our playmaker, with press claims that amongst others, Arsene Wenger is interested in Cabaye.

As and when Debuchy signs on the dotted line, it can only be massively down to his much talked about friendship with Yohan Cabaye. A current French international choosing to move abroad to a relegation threatened club, he would surely have had numerous other options if he’d chosen to look elsewhere.

Cabaye and Debuchy spent thirteen years together at Lille, as literally men and boys, and are best mates.

This is in contrast to the perceived Ba/Cisse best mates scenario which was assumed because they both played for Senegal.

Reports of friction between the two strikers might have been exaggerated this season but on the other hand they weren’t nailed on to be automatic best mates.

Cisse born and brought up in Senegal, while Ba was born and brought up in France, though he represents Senegal at international level. Apart from sharing their religion and a national team who they have rarely played together for, it would be a similar situation if we signed one of Nigeria’s born and bred players and expected him automatically to be best mates with the mackem slayer.

Not surprisingly Ba is best mates with Ben Arfa and Cabaye who also spent all of their formative years growing up in France.

So Mathieu Debuchy; one thing for sure is that when he pulls on a black & white shirt it will be because he really wants to be here, playing alongside Yohan Cabaye for Newcastle United, and you can’t put a price on that.

More good news from .com:

If our understanding of the UEFA regulations is correct, Debuchy would be eligible to appear for Newcastle in this season's Europa League, despite previously playing for Lille in the Champions League:

18.18 For all matches from the start of the round of 32, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2013.

18.19 One player from the above quota of three who has been fielded in a UEFA club competition group stage match for another club in the current season may exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded: a) in the same competition for another club; or B) for another club that is currently in the same competition.

Lille won a two-legged Champions League playoff to advance through to the Champions League Group Stage.

They then finished bottom of their group, meaning that they exited from the Champions League but failed to qualify for the Europa League.

(Debuchy was red-carded against Valencia but has served the one match ban that he received).
