sniffer 0
That one was very close. I'm sure I read somewhere that Salako was in the car practically on his way up when he was told not to bother after all. Didn't we get a cut-price Ginola as compo after PSG used us to ramp up the fee from Milan for George Weah? IIRC, Salako turned us down. Biggest mistake of his career. Howmanheyman 33850
IIRC, Salako turned us down. Biggest mistake of his career. Other way round. NUFC spotted an 'injury concern' at his medical which coincided with us getting the nod we could get Ginola in the same position as Salako. Meenzer 15722
I remember some Le Tissier-esque "too far norf" quotes being attributed to Salako at the time, but that might just have been the Chronicle being the Chronicle
Howmanheyman 33850
Nah, our interest definitely cooled off when Daveed became a possibility and I think the player just tried to put a brave face on it.
sniffer 0
That's a nice spin, but I don't recall it being the case.
Chronic the Drug Wasp 6
It was the case. The Salako deal fell through our end after we landed a cut-price Ginola on the back of PSG stitching us up over George Weah. I remember Keegan saying something at the time about feeling sorry for Salako, later blaming John Hall for pulling the plug.

No, these are some nice spins......(Check out J69 in the red waist coat by the way), Salako was gutted to be honest.

donaldstott 0
Salako was a good player, loved watching him when he played for Reading. I refereed him in a charity five a side tournament up at Prospect Park. He spent all day there, seemed like a nice guy.
scoobos 298
He used to live next door to me and was a great neighbour to have. He did his back garden up like a mini football pitch and used to do the lines and groundskeeping , his nephew must be becoming a canny player by now. I remember Gazza shat in his shorts as a prank once. He moved to Surrey to be all posh a while ago tho. Back to footie, I would have enjoyed him in the side, but he'd struggle to have got regular games.
BigWalrus 0
Useless fact - I had John Salako as a wild card entry in a celebrity death pool sweepstake last year.
