Gemmill 46065
The FA have confirmed that 6th place now gets Europa League btw. So that puts to bed any "Chelsea can take Europe off us" concerns.

rogerbarton 24
Cisse was presumably one of our main targets but we were priced out last summer. I did wonder whether Maiga failing his medical might have had anything to do with us finding out that Freiburg might have been willing to lower their asking price... Why sign a striker who fails a medical when your original target becomes available under your criteria? Now that Cisse is setting the league alight with his current form, it looks like a brilliant call. We've seen the transfer system - there's a clear list of targets drawn up in order of priority. Cisse took precedent over Maiga and so we didn't push through the signing. Looks like it was the right call, although who's to say that Maiga wouldn't have tucked away the chances Cisse has been scoring.

Back Sounness blah blah blah etc. I've clearly stated in post 157 what i think about it. Why don't you reply in an intellectual manner what is this rubbish I've said? When will you accept my bet? YOU and your mates MANC MAG and THE FINANCIAL WHIZZ KID still spoil it for the others. Where is FISH in his assumed role to prevent this?

What I was suggesting was that we may have been close to sealing a deal with Maiga before finding out that Cisse was available for a price within our range and then pulled the plug on Maiga blaming it on his medical. Let's not forget we've taken chances on other players with dodgy injury record - Ba, Marveaux, Gosling for example under Ashley.

rogerbarton 24
True. I s'pose the replacement striker had been our top priority for some time. Just a conspiracy theory of mine
Craig 6700
Is the squad stronger than when we had Andy Carroll? Undoubtedly. Does Ashley stick his hand in his pocket when necessary? See Pappis Cisse. JawD hit the nail on the head when he said some people are more interested in hating Mike Ashley than supporting Newcastle United. Lets just wait and see eh ? Until when exactly? Gemmill 46065
With Everton still to go to OT, we probably only need 1 point to secure it.

trophyshy 7084
In fairness he should be given the full 15 if you're going to compare regimes. So perhaps we could all just reserve judgement for the next decade?
Craig 6700
Just trying to work out who has already qualified and who is still in with a shout. 7 places available for Europe. Already qualified are: Manchester United (CL - can't finish lower than 2nd) Manchester City (CL - can't finish lower than 3rd) Arsenal (CL or EL - can't finish lower than 6th) Liverpool (CL or EL - guaranteed EL for Carling Cup win and still outside chance of finishing top 4) Chelsea (CL or EL - guaranteed EL for FA Cup final appearance) So the final two places are between us, Spurs and Everton. Good point about Everton going to OT Gemmill - if they fail to win there and we beat Stoke, we've qualified.
NJS 4411
Well one precedent would be not qualifying for Europe in 94/95 after doing so the previous year.
