Rayvin 5295
Fuck me, even China wasn't that bad... Why not have multiple platforms and concurrent trains? Clearly that one platform isn't fit for purpose. Scary stuff.

Rayvin 5295
No one gives a fuck, as far as I can tell. I wonder how many people over there can claim to have died trying to board a train. I bet it's not insubstantial.

Rayvin 5295
You know, I considered rephrasing that as I wrote it and just though "nah fuck it, they're not pedantic enough to pick that up" It's like I don't know you guys at all.

Dr Gloom 22143
i doubt whether VRs ever really going to take off beyond the niche gaming community. i've played with a few and they're impressive but i can see it going the same way as the 3d TV. Alex 35571
I can think of loads of possibilities. I just don't see the point of something you can play in the pub if and when you can be arsed.
Dr Gloom 22143
the main thing i don't like about them is the form factor. they're pretty uncomfortable to use as they strap tightly to your face. i had a go at one on a virtual rollercoaster at a tech conference and it was pretty grim as the sweat from the person who had just used it still clung to the headset. apparently they have them at alton towers and six flags in the states but i can't see that taking off for that reason. still to see a killer app for them too. i can't imagine ever watching feature length filns on them. still to be filed under impressive gimmick, for now. i don't see the mass market appeal. Surely as the tech advances it'll get lighter and end up resembling something littlemore robust than a sleeping mask.
Dr Gloom 22143
Maybe but I remain sceptical. I find the idea that in future we'll all be sat in our living rooms on an evening, plugged into VR too depressing to contemplate.
Alex 35571
Is it any less depressing than people going out on the piss and spending about 75% of the time looking at their phones, updating their Facebook status and trying to fool everyone (except the mates they're actually supposed to be out enjoying themselves with) how amazeballs their lives are? Rayvin 5295
I hope it takes off since I'm wedded to the idea of being able to upload myself into a virtual world in my old age, and relive my youth. There was a film that covered this as a concept but I don't remember what it was called. A sci-fi of some description. People took a hallucinogenic drug to prevent them from being 'aware' that they were in the game. When I'm 107 and have finally retired, it's the first thing I'll do. In the more immediate future, if it offers improved immersion I'm all for it
