Lake Bells tits 1
Isnt the main difference that we have now gathered all the debt under one roof, interestfree? In the same period the debt have increased by 50% though? I am grateful for not having to pay interest, but Mike also benefits financially by this arrangement. ZoomVT 0
These threads on here are now full of people fantasising about who we are going to sign, just like they used to be. My point is, and always has been, that these sort of expectations and ambitions are not shared by the owner, who will be happy to survive and promote the Sports Company, and make a proftit - selling a player if one is not achieved operationally on its own merit. He is a retailer by instinct, every player has a price, and he will be happy to scout around looking for cheaper replacements, this has always been the mentality and it is still the mentality. Anybody with an ounce of common sense knows that this partcular approach cannot be sustained and result in longer term high league positions and "progress" as such. This has been my point for all these years, it is inferior to the approach of the old owners and as such can never match them on a longer term basis. Ok. I'll bite. I dont know anyone here and dont care about the back and forth. I will throw in my 2 cents. I have read a few posts and know you like to throw it around as a fact, but it hardly is a fact and is more of an assumption. How do you know the ambitions are not shared by the owner? Obviously he is not going to be delusional like some here with winning a trebel year in year out, but surely he has the ambition to compete for top places. Why? For the same reasons you think otherwise. The argument is that he is just after money (agreed), however if he is as half smart as he must be (to accumulated his wealth) then he surely sees the benefit of competing: There is more money higher in the table, winning sells a lot more merchandise than losing. He is getting free advertisement but that is only worth as much as the market would pay. So a sponsor may pay x for a team in the 10th spot, but will pay 5x for a top 6 team. European competitions increase the visibility of the sponsor, more money. Now, is he frugal? yes, and he should be. Spending money is not equal to challenging to for titles, especially the way ffs was spending it. I am not a cheerleader for fma, i hate what he has done with SJP, and obviously dislike the past years; but even then (and before, when ffs was in charge) I was of the opinion that a more sensible approach of living within your means (just like you should at home) is the right way to run a club. No, success will not happen every year, and rebuilding years will take longer than if your thrown money at it, but you will not risk going broke (or down) as often. I dont care who owns the team as long as they have the right approach, currently fma is doing right, maybe he learnt his lesson, maybe he is just fooling us. I disagree, i think this approach is very sustainable and can yield high league positions year in year out. didn't you say something like "lets not suggest things which may or may not happen" ? Fact is, we ARE nowhere near sustaining the challenging at the top of the league that the previous regime achieved during their entire 15 years owning the club. Fact? give it 3-5 years since we came back up. pre-relegation approach is not the same as the current approach. Yes, some of it is self-inflicted bad decisions, but he is not making any mistakes since we came back up (you could argue dropping CH was a mistake, but in hindsight, was it?) Fact is you dont know either so dont be calling facts. facts are backed by scientific research and data; neither of which i see along with your argument. You are free to think and believe what you want, but dont post is as fact unless it is proven. If it does come true please feel free to come and rub it in; but until then it is just your forecast of how things will turn around. My view is that i am cautiously optimistic about the direction of the club. I agree with the policy of buying underpriced players that can outperform its current market value. I do not think we have to turn over the squad (and i dont think we will). If/when fma does start selling stars that were sensibly priced (say Tiote wants 40k/wk) then i'll worry, but not if he is selling stars that want a huge payoff (say he wants 110k/wk); at that point i say sell him, he has become overpriced. Thats just my 2 pesos; read, reply, ignore, whatever.

LeazesMag 0
By selling to the arabs who went to man City instead of dealing with Ashley? Baggio insisted once this could be done by adopting a DOF system with Dennis Wise as the DOF. This is a perfect example of people asking me questions, usually the same ones I've answered dozens of times, then not answering questions I ask them, and I get the flak. So I'll ignore it, along with other people who think they are the forum jokers. Jokers they are, but not in the way they think. What Baggio says, I have answered loads of times and the rest. I've said my piece. It isn't really my fault that so many people believe the club will push on because they want them to, when the reality in my view will be sadly not the case. Which doesn't stop me enjoying winning while it lasts just like anyone else. Edited April 26, 2012 by LeazesMag

Lake Bells tits 1
Id like to think Leazes eventually will come around and to terms with what the current NUFC regime is trying to build. CleeToonFan 1
YOU all are MORONS. It's obvious that the previous board would have not sold their best players and replaced with cheaper alternatives. I think I've known Leazes on these forums for the best part 9 years and I can tell you now he will never change, I genuinely doesn't know any other way to debate a point. I can remember when we all got a warning on N-O for the same discussion he wants to have every day on here still and they said then that they know he's annoying and that they've been having words with him for 4 years! That was about 4 years ago too So he won't change, he will continue the way he is until the admin say enough is enough and get rid of him, like they did over there. The Fish 10661
Leazes, the only person not answering your question is Gemmil, so why not answer Baggio's reasonable question to further the discussion and move past Gemmil? Seems the mature thing to do?

Happy Face 29
So sell to someone else then Yep. If Leazes doesn't like Ashley then he needs to look at the previous owners who sold to such a penny pinching, non-football, non-Geordie man. But then, has Leazes actually said Shepherd/Hall should buy back the club and compete for the title now? I think his point is only that they were able to invest at the level required to compete in their era. Owen was a dud, but they broke the record transfer fee to get Shearer, the best striker in the country. No-one laments that as financial stupidity. Leazes wants an owner willing to invest at a competitive level in this era too. If Ashley has no interest in doing that he has no business running the club with the 5th best etc etc.

When we actually won the title, how would the owners then be able to compete for the title now? You see how silly the question is? The point is they broke transfer records in their own era. They couldn't afford to now, that's why they got out of the game.

You will not find a post from me anywhere saying this. Apologies to everyone on this board for repeating this point for about the 100th time. But as Baggy had flounced away for a while to NO from here, before he was banned by NO and came back here, he probably has not seen this before. Now Baggy. Do you stand by your affirmation you made on countless occasions in the past that a DOF system, headed by Wise and managed by Ramos, would compete at these levels and was vastly superior to a club managed in the British tradition by Kevin Keegan ?
