So who actually thinks we will finish 4th?

After a 4 - 0 loss to Wigan, which I thought would be the easiest of our last four games, I'm not at all confident we'll get any points from the remaining three. I hope I'm wrong inn thinking that.

I think we may have blown our chance of Champions League today but I'll settle for a place in Europe and an unbelievable season which wasn't expected.

I think we'll step our game up though against Chelsea, City, and Everton. I think the 4-0 scoreline flattered Wigan today, although that's not to discredit them, they played very well and took advantage of our mistakes. But after 2-0, Pardew went for the new formation with 2 wingbacks. This was entirely new for our team, and I think was directly responsible for us going 4-0 down. It was a gamble, and could've paid off, but unfortunately it didn't. That said, I think if we had stuck with 4-3-3 or gone to a more rigid 4-4-2, we could have salvaged a point if we'd gone into the second half down only 2-0.

So what ramifications does this have for the run in? Basically what I'm saying is that our form will hold, and that even though we lost 4-0 we can still take the game to these clubs. The players will be extra motivated and will certainly not be underestimating the opposition. In both games we will be the underdog, and I feel that is when we're at our best. The pressure will be on Chelsea and City to perform, and I think we could take advantage of that. Either way, I am VERY excited to see where the next 2 weeks takes us, regardless of the outcome. I mean, what a fucking season!!!

If we do end up finishing 5th or 6th there'd be some weird sense of relief in Chelsea winning the CL knowing that we wouldn't have got in even if we had finished 4th.

Exactly my thoughts at half time yesterday.

Being in Europe will be great regardless of what could have been and no matter what happens its been an incredible season and the performance we saw yesterday doesn't change that. We could lose every game until the end of the season and nothing changes. It has been a brilliant season.

Some would call it relief, I would be full of schadenfreude for those actually finishing fourth and not getting CL anyway :)

We had to win against wigan for this to even be a debate. 4th is dead, we have away games against chelsea and everton and at home vs the best team in the league. 3-4 points at the very best.

I was confident against wigan and that didnt end well, I am not regarding our remaining fixtures. Predicting 2 losses and a draw

Painfully ridiculous defeatist attitude after one bad loss.

Look at the other teams run-in. Look at our Run-in.

Anything is possible (mathematically), but its firmly in the "unlikely" bin for us now, especially with tottenham and chelsea winning at home.

Chelsea in massive form atm, City is...well city... and everton away was never going to be easy with Moyes usual end-of-season sprint.

For me, we have to beat chelsea at Stamford. Tall order, but thats where it stands for me. Then we are back on.

You're trying to convince yourself you'll be happier with a worse result. Bollocks, we want to be in the champions League as soon as we can. So fuck if we get knocked out straight away, it's still 10 times the Europa league money, however well you do....

Yeah, I know; that wasn't my point.

Seems a bit late seeing as we lost against Wigan (not been on since the above post) but FWIW - I never thought we'd finish 4th.

Sat and did the numbers with a mate at work and I could only see us coming 5th at best. At the time my predictions were:

Wigan - 3pts

Chelsea - 0pts

Citeh - 1pts

Everton- 3pts

The above was me being bold too. If the Salford Reds beat the Council house blues, then we might get the 3pts - but even then we still need the results for Chelsea & Spuds to go in our favour: a tall ask.

After the Wigan defeat, I'm even more convinced by the 5th spot now.

Regardless of all of the above - win, lose or draw: getting into Europe this season is fantastic and well above our expectations for this season. It's because of that, that I can't get too upset at not reaching the CL places. Part of me will somewhat 'philosophically' put it down to us not being ready yet. It will be a little frustrating though, given how poor Spurs in particular have been of late.

Actually, whilst typing this post, I've noticed the results of today's games. In my predictor, I had Stoke v Arsenal as a draw and Chelsea & Spurs winning. The only result I didn't expect was us losing.

Barring a twist fo fate it's 5th at best for us and that's still a great achievement.

Firstly, we need a result against Chelsea.

Spurs have two tricky away games in the space of a few days, I doubt they can win them both. If we win on Wednesday it's huge, probably takes Chelsea out of it and means Spurs need a good run in.

Hopefully the news that Harry's staying puts them on a downer. So pissed off that I'm working Wednesday night. Already walking a disciplinary tightrope so can't even feign sickness.

This was the point I was trying to raise to Monroe Transfer too, but he has sand in his vagina whenever I post something.

Do we have a chance on 4th? Only if he get a result vs chelsea, and even so we go into the 2 last games on points with the tottenham having City and Everton away left. Should we come away with 3 points, even then the chances are slim with our inferior goal difference.

I`d give us a 5% chance of getting 4th as things stand, 25% if we beat chelsea.

Cant see us beating Chelsea, cant see us beating Man City gunning for the title. I could see us getting a draw from one of them. Sadly I dont think that is enough before we even get to Everton.

Aye, with nothing to lose and being under less pressure than Chelsea and Spurs, we should just go out play our natural game and hope for the best. If we do that we may have a chance.

Just getting a sneaky feeling we will miss out on 4th yet manage to hand Man Utd the title somehow

It's not inconceivable that our season is done with. Chelsea has always been a difficult hunting ground for us and their confidence is massive at the moment.

Man City have the title in their grasp and I don't expect that to be anything but difficuit.

And Everton's home record is one of the best in the league - since New Year only Citeh, Us, Man Utd & Fulham have a better record. Over the same period our away record hasn't been tremendous.

Even finishing with 62 points is a massive, massive achievement

Agree with I'm Mad. I think we'll miss out on 4th (very likely) but fuck up Man City's party in the process. That said, Man Utd might drop points at the mackems (to be honest though, I think they'll only fail to win at Sunderland if they need City to drop points on the last day. If a win would guarantee them the title, I think think they'll have the nouse and experience to get it).
