Senior club management is probably panicking given their financial situation and pending relegation. They just want to be seen doing something. How much cost cutting would axing some admin staff achieve in the modern premier league club where a player sitting on the bench will be likely making more in a week than they will in a year? One Jack Rodwell will be equivalent to what? 104 reasonably paid admin staff? Are they gonna lay off that many? Didn't Ashley swap out all our light bulbs for more economic ones?  Sure you're only saving £20k a year on some poor Administrator's wage, but you'll also be looking to flog Rodwell, and Kone and the rest. And thats the category letting go of a few support staff at a football club should fall into. Remember reading somewhere that around 50% of club staff are part time anyway. You could get rid of all of them and the savings would pale in comparison to halving a single players wages over a year.  You're right in that executives like fussing about staff costs, even if its a fraction of overall operational costs.
