Playing footy after a concussion

Banged my head really bad on Saturday and pretty much knocked myself out. Been a bit spaced out, ever since but felt a bit more human today. Definately think I had a mild concussion.

I'm supposed to be playing footy tomorrow but just had a bit of a dizzy spell that's still not really gone.

Should I play footy tomorrow or is there a certain period of time you're supposed to wait?

you have seen a doctor right?

Nope! Tbh I'm not dying, being sick, passing out etc. I had a stotting headache after and felt pretty spaced out, then the next day just a dull headache and feeling spaced out... today felt less spaced out but still a tiny bit, felt fine apart from that until about 10 mins ago when I started to feel dizzy.

I spoke to someone I know who's a nurse and she said there's nothing they'll do if I go to the docs anyway, but obviously if my symptoms got worse I would go anyway

Just play you fanny. Bert Trautmann played 35 minutes in the FA Cup with a broken neck. I've played on with a broken hand before. Too many moddiecodled fannies knocking about these days.

If you're feeling dizzy two days later I would definitely get it checked out.

Most likely it won't be anything but it's worth popping in, the walk in centres are pretty quick I think!

Yeah I thought this too tbh so went up... They said I needed to go to A & E so just sat there waiting to be seen. Bit of a waste of time I reckon but might as well get it checked out

You're worried cause you've had a 'dizzy spell'? Just have a sugary tea man.

 Listen to you hard bastards man.

In work it goes a bit like this

"knees a bit sore after other day"

"fuck up, you're playing"

"alright"

The real man's response to this exchange is "I'll fucking tell you when I'm playing, dickhead. Not this week."

I walked 30 minutes to a medical centre with a double fracture, they were useless and didn't know anything so I trained 4-5 times a week on it in agony and only went to the hospital about 3-4 weeks later when the pain got ridiculous.

It's still fucked now because I didn't get it checked out properly as soon as I could.

Proper hero me like, will be able to tell all the kids why I am on crutches when the arthritis sets in, fuck yeah, real man!!11

It's was at the RVI... I wasn't expecting it to be so quick either so was pleasantly surprised :)

Nobody cares about your sports related injuries when you are shit though. My brother hasnt played footie for a year cos of an ingrained (is that the word?) toe. The doc had to cut him, which took about 3 months of waiting list. Then he screwed it up, then screwed it up again. My brother is a pansy and i bet he could play with it, but its still pretty weird. If he was a footballer at a club it would have been fixed in a week id imagine.

You'll be fine man, I got knocked out in the pre-game "warm up". Point black volley to the back of the head. Then played the 90.

Mate of mine got cleaned out in a 50/50 in the first minute of a cup final. Bloke was out cold for about 30 seconds, woke up and was spaced out. He carried on and 40 minutes later, he strolled over to the touchline asking where he was, was completely unaware of the score. Best I've seen him play all season.

A concussion is a brain injury and not to be trifled with. Don't know you well enough to say if there's any real concerns over your brain in particular ;) but generally speaking, people are too cavalier about an injury that quite literally is a result of having your brain splattered against your skull.

Yeah I decided to err on the side of caution and not play... tbh i still feel a bit ropey today but have had a busy day at work which probably hasn't helped.
