Christmas Tree 4669
Why do people assume it's just money. Sometimes players just fancy somewhere else. Isn't he also Tiotes mate? Dr Gloom 21759
In order words, we are a niggle away from starting Williamson for yet another season. Unacceptable in my view. He is shit, sorry. williamson isn't shit; neither's perch for that matter, they both did a good job last season. not saying they're world beaters but they've shown they can perform as part of a solid defensive unit in the premier league. if the transfer pot is limited - as has been the case in most transfer windows while ashley's in charge - then we're better off spending the cash on a full back and striker. and seriously, who's to say this douglas kid is even that good? i have no clue if he'll cut it in the premier league. i've seen enough of debuchy to know he looks a quality player. if we get debuchy and carroll in and don't sell anymore players, we'll have had a belter window. a central defender would be a bonus. I havent seen enough of the new perch to pass a judgement on him as a CB. Williamson I have seen quite alot obviously. He is slow as a snail, lacking awareness and tries making up for his pace by resorting to foul play - basically a penalty waiting to happen. Biggest drawback is the fact that he is so painfully uncomfortable on the ball though. Big "Oh no" bubble popping up above his head every time he is handed the ball. Even simpson is more comfortable. Every pass is either backwards, sideways or a massive hoof. I appreciate his effort but I just dont rate Williamson, sorry. We can do so much better. Dr Gloom 21759
Man City's Adam Johnson targeted by Liverpool, Spurs & Sunderland http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19334874 adam johnson is a player i've always thought we shoudl be in for. local lad. would slot into a 4-3-3 system nicely. i'd love to see him and ben arfa on the flanks, swapping wings and pinning back full backs. transfer fee and wages would probably deter us though

BigWalrus 0
Williamson isn't too bad - as long as he's used sensibly. Stick a sweeper (Coloccini) behind him, and tell him to get rid of it as soon as he can, and he's passable. He's an able stand in for Steven Taylor, nothing more. We shouldn't be building our team around him, but equally there is no point in getting rid as we could do a lot worse.
Lake Bells tits 1
The problem is that stand in means starting 20 games on the trot whenever Steven Taylor has had it yet again. There is no "step in" - I would have NO problems with the odd weekend game, a cup game here and there or a second half... What I do have a problem with is that he is a starter when and if colo/saylor gets injured which is pretty much nailed on to happen.. We need 3 CBs of similar quality to battle it out for the two spots - it makes sense on so many levels. Competitively between the three of them, in terms of spreading the workload a bit, would mean less injuries - and when they happen we wont be that weak etc.. Having 2 the entire year and a backup who is nowhere near as good is just not good enough anymore when people expect us to challenge for top-6. Dr Gloom 21759
williamson's really not that bad though is he? he's not a liability like bramble and boumsong were. he's not the quickest or the best on the ball but he's solid in the air and did a decent job last season alongside colo in the main. all you need to do is look at the goals against column - one of our best in years. in an ideal world we'd have better quality reserve centre half than williamson. but i'm not sure you're going to get a better player than him happy to sit on the bench for a team not in the champions league. and especially not for the kind of fees and wages we pay. and to be honest, i have no clue if this douglas kid is better suited to the premiership than williamson anyway. let's see how he does at fulham, could be another brian ruiz tbh

As in would get left behind in any 1v1 situation basically. On the ball I think he looks nervous and would rather hoof it up than do anything else.. He is good in the air but his positional awareness on the ground is quite poor ( which could have offset the lack of pace - see John Terry). Any creative player is going to have a field day with him unless he has backup. As far as "coming here to warm the bench" goes - isnt this up to the player himself really? You come to a club, you prove yourself - you get nothing for free. The arguement is inherently flawed, if you are good enough - you start. If not - well sit down son - you will get your chances. Noone is happy to warm the bench but most fotballers have inflated egos and genuinely believe they can make the starting 11 - as they should. See Rodwell and Sinclair for recent proof of this.. BigWalrus 0
Pace doesn't matter as much when he's standing in for Taylor. Williamson is there to win the first ball in the air and Coloccini is the sweeper, mopping up the ball behind. It's standard central defensive stuff, playing to each others strengths. I've not seen anything to suggest that he's that bad positionally. Every defender will get turned by a good striker every now and again - it happens. And I am almost certain Williamson would want to leave if he doesn't get enough games. A massive chunk of salary is appearance bonus and this will be even more significant for Williamson, who is on relatively little basic. It's adding up to the difference between earning £250k for the year and £1m, which is material. The same goes for any centre back we signed. Without the games that the CL can offer, they wouldn't come.
Lake Bells tits 1
Be that as it may, a little more competition for the CB slots wouldnt be a bad thing. We are an attractive club, players should wanna come here and try to prove themselves in the PL. Anyone demanding pitch time can fuck off imo, you arent handed that. Its earned. Lake Bells tits 1
I dont have a problem with that really, but he was first choice for 8 months last season and the fact that we are yet again hoping for a Steven Taylor not crocking concerns me. Williamson ( and simpson for that matter) starting in a team with CL aspirations stick out like two sore thumbs. There is nothing wrong with them per se but we need to evolve.. I dont lose sleep over douglas either, I just want another centreback who is better than WIlliamson in. Plenty of games for a new`un with EL and cups running simultaneously. Our first XI is top5-6 but a few injuries at the back and 2xdemba in africa and we are suddently very exposed.. Christmas Tree 4669
What a carry on with Andy Carrol. Fancy your club coming out with the stuff they have today. Seems like a right game of brinkmanship going on. However Lolerpool getting beat and missing various chances might make Rodgers more desperate to get some cash in allowing him to get a striker he likes. Christmas Tree 4669
What have they said like? No direct quotes but basically they've leaked this morning that he either picks a club this week or can expect a season on the bench. Sounds to me like they are getting twitchy and trying to force his hand.

Kevin Carr's Gloves 3788
They are immensely stupid if it is the case. He could take them for constructive dismissal and get out of his contract for free. Clubs have to start realising the the eu doesn't like the contract rules and if they intentionally refuse to play someone regardless of performance one player will fuck them.
