Not at all. You are all quite happy to name two of the 11 but cant manage three.

You should try and ease of the name calling. It does you no favours :(

the reason why we can name two is because they're two of the weak links.

the point, CT, is that the weak areas are

  • 1st choice LB
  • depth in defence (2-3 players)
  • 3rd and 4th choice strikers
  • strong sub-'keeper
  • cover for Tiote

In there you can see a need for Centre Back and Right Back, in the 1st team, which is why people can give two names from the first team and not 3. Because there ARE 2 positions in the first team which need immediate action.

We all know that Fish. This was a different question requiring a little bit more thought than the bog standard sheep answer we can all rattle off.

If we want to progress we must constantly be looking to upgrade the first 11.

We all know the two that are the priority. Lets say they are done, everything stays the same and Ashley says to Alan in September. "Right Alan, I ve got a lump put aside for a first teamer for Janury, who would you like to replace"?

I can dress this up a million different ways and you will keep avoiding it.

Goodnight

You're an idiot.

You're constructing an argument that doesn't exist ffs. You're stating we have to improve the 1st 11, we don't we need to improve the squad. I'm saying that there' 7 positions we need to improve before we look at Jonas. You're just obsessed with getting rid of Jonas. It's pathetic.

Yes on all counts.

CT, you said it was clear that Jonas is one of three weak links that needs upgrading. Everyones entitled to an opinion but that is plainly bollocks. Jonas has been one of our top performers this season and had been made vice captain on merit.

The only way he's going anywhere is if a silly bid comes in. Even then I dont see him wanting to leave. Like colo he stuck by us during relegation, he clearly lives the area and playing his all for the team.

Top player, not going anywhere. Deal with the matter.

So who is the third weakest player out of the team I posted?

It's a very simple theoretical question that you are all going Leazes over.

I have managed to list the entire team from 1 - 11 in order that I would "theoretically" upgrade them with Williamson first and Cisse last.

It's only a bit of fun on the Internet.

Doesn't mean I don't want Jonas here next year. Doesn't mean I don't think he's had a good season and it doesn't mean than improving the overall squad is less important.

Now answer the very simple question or don't any of you slag Leazes off for avoiding a question again

1. Williamson

2. Simpson

3. ?

Well Santon for starters.

Like I said in earlier post, santon, Williamson, Simpson, Guthrie, obertan to name just a few players with over 20 first team starts are less established than jonas.

Jonas is up there with cisse, ba, colo, tiote, krul et al. He's in the group of players the majority of us don't want to leave. He's a key senior player, whether you like it or not.

That's not to say santOns a weak player btw, just that jonas is a more established senior player and as such less likely to be sold, or upgraded as you put it.

TS made a good point at post 1034. Ie this season has seen our lesser players coming on and performing well. Perch, Guthrie, Simpson, Williamson. If they attract cash bidders (and it ties in with a pre-identified replacement) you ship them. They haven't become better players overnight, they're just playing in a better side and have upped their game accordingly. That's what happens, it's equally what happens in reverse when we traditionally buy players from clubs like Man U etc. They turn shit when they get here because its been a joke set up compared to their last place of employment.

The principle applies to all of the team-ie our better players are playing better too, but many of them will be targets anyway. That's a different matter and we deal with that on the quality of the bids received. In terms of those bottom four however it's more of a principled approach, ie we'd do good business to lose any of them if we've already identified an upgrade like-for-like improvement.

Obviously theres lots of more peripheral squad players who it'd be good to be shot of before them, but just trying to deal in realities.

Perch has been immense btw and Simpson has added massive value on his sheer availability all season. That's a different argument altogether though. If they're still here next season then I'm fine with that for the reasons stated, if they attracted bids however and we have 'upgrade' targets lined up, you do business.

I said santon in my previous post - wake up chunk!

You said Santon as part of a large reeled off list which wasnt the question. Fair do's those for answering it.

Anyway enough of this debate as the Jonas man love will outweigh any objectivity.

Had Jonas not been mentioned, a question could have been posed saying list the first team in order of who you would least like to see sold. Might have been easier for some people to offer up an opinion without getting their knickers in a knot.

The work rate from Jonas when we play the 4-3-3 is invaluable as it allows Ba, Cisse, Ben Arfa and to an extent Cabaye as much freedom as they like in the final third of the pitch.

CT has dug himself such a hole with his criticism of Jonas. He can't very well turn around and give the guy credit now can he.

He'll be back on Ben Arfa's case too if he has a bad run of form.

Plus there's the 'Enrique on the wain' debacle from last year.

CT you're a top bloke but some of the stuff you come out with is rediculous.

I'm happy to have theoretical debates, but only when they're open. The question you've constructed is an attempt to have people say they'd get rid of a 1st team that you've decided upon. Given that Obertan has started roughly the same number of league games as HBA, does he not have a shout of being in that 1st team?

It would be like me asking you which of the following is the player who most deserving of 1st team birth and a handjob; Xisco, Smith or Jonas. The question and options are constructed in such a way as to render the answer valueless.

If you'd, instead, asked us which positions needed strengthening, you'd have a broad question where people could give complete answers instead of you being on the end of abuse. You say there's a Jonas "love in". It's not that, it's just that the rest of us haven't decided he's poor and will not be swayed from that opinion.

There is absolutely no chance Pardew would want to replace Jonas. He's been pivotal in our season and makes it so easy for Pardew to switch formations when needed as he can cover a whole load of positions. He's one of the first names on the team sheet.
