Nyff 0
Fucking hell. We have played shocking, but did seem to be growing into it towards the end. Still, been a pile of wank. Just no creativity. The penalty was a joke and the refereeing in general has been rubbish.
Guest CabayeAye
The shove on Ba in the box was 100 times more a penalty than the non-event that they got their penn a for. And if I ever see Waddle in public...
ewerk 30602
That push was as much of a penalty as Williamson's tug. no it wasn't If the ref is going to play to the letter of the law then yes it was. Neither would have normally been pens.

ChezGiven 0
Sunderland better side but signs are we can get back into it. Ba was so close but both strikers playing poorly, mainly because of the way we are set up. Pardew needs to change things a bit.
Bonamental 0
Unfortunately for us, Dean has such bullet proof arrogance/self confidence that he doesn't seem the type to "even things up", so he was never going to give that tiniest shove against them. Davey Dave 0
Refereeing's been awful but so have we. No creativity, no fight. Can't see us coming back into it. Edited March 4, 2012 by Davey Dave
nortoon 0
Its been the same for the last 3 games. We play with 4 defensive midfielders. They sprint around when the opposition have the ball. Then they either hoof or play around in midfield. When the ball goes up Tiote and Cabaye stands around on the halfway line. Then you see ryan taylor sprinting backwards to meet simpson. Or Gutierrez trying to beat sunderland on his own or with the help of Santon down the left wing. Other than that its just hoofing. Admittedly it got better toward the last 10 mins. Still, this "rigid", "solid" shape is pissing me off more and more. Our strikers are often knackered by the 70th min too, having to sprint around after lost causes. and it makes them less sharp. 2bias 3
I'm going to take my biased glasses off and say that the reason we are losing is that we are playing to the occasion and not sticking to the basics. If we play football like we know we can then we will win but were not. The penalty was a pentalty, what Williamson was thinking there I don't know. rogerbarton 24
My half time thoughts: 1) Shirt pulling happens every time a set piece is delivered into the box in every single game in the Premier League. Fair enough if you're going to be consistent and give it every time, but has Dean actually given a penalty for that offence at all this season? And why the hell would you go and give it in a game as huge as this? 2) Hoofball has been prominent again. DOES NOT WORK. See my comments in the Wolves thread. We haven't won a single long ball again today. Get it down and play it on the floor. We have the players. Pardew HAS to change things at half time. Bring Ben Arfa on, give us a bit of a spark, get us playing it on the floor.

TheMoog 0
After all said and done we've only got Ashley to blame for the fact we got no defensive cover in during January, hence we're playing a clogger like Williamson in a game like this.

toonotl 2978
Yep. Williamson cost us points when he couldn't clear the ball against Wolves and he'll continue to cost us points. He isn't good enough for this level.

ewerk 30602
Looking at it again, Williamson did himself no favours. The referee could clearly see what he was doing and he grabbed him round the collar at the front, making it even more obvious. We were unlucky that Dean gave it but it was a pointless pull by Williamson.

Williamson did it right in the eyeline of Dean and was blatent about it, reaching up at Turners shoulder. When we actually had the ball on the deck at the end we threatened a lot more.
