Happy Face 29
Don't be deliberately thick. Sorry. Simpson is clearly an improvement on what we had at right back. I haven't got a clue.

If we're talking about players in their prime rather than where they are now then I'd go with Beye over Simpson.

nortoon 0
for the 500k or whatever and the position we were in, Simpson was a good signing to be fair. We should be looking to get something better than him in the summer though.
Andrew 4863
I pretty much figured it was the players as they are now, otherwise Im assuming we'd all take the likes of Cole in his prime, beardsley, ginola etc
Guest CabayeAye
Simpson is cheap and has done a job. Is he good enough for a CL club? No he isn't, therefore we should replace him.

Otherwise it becomes our best 11 which is not what the op was getting at.
JawD 99
I rated Beye highly when he was here and it was a shame to see him leave. That said I've been very surprised with his quick drop in quality and as it stands, I'd not have him back. I would have Enrique and move Santon to RB though. I'd take Given but he'd be on the bench. Milner for RM. I'd have Barton but he'd be a squad player. Bassong would also give the depth we ned at the back.
David Kelly 1260
Ricky would get straight back into the team and allow santon to move to rightback in place of Simpson. Barton or Milner would both improve our right flank as neither Squidward or Ben Arfa have performed so far. Bassong would be better than Williamson but I'm not sure I would have him over Taylor. I never rated duff so I'd have no interest in having him back but Nzogbia would at least provide an option. I know we're all excited about cisse but at this stage I can't believe anyone wouldn't welcome back Carroll when we know exactly what he can give to the team. Players such as Beye and Given may have been better than what we have in the past but they've declined so now they wouldnt get a game. The point of the thread is clearly to try and show that we are now better off with the players we currently have, and it can certainly be argued that in general this is the case. But if you're trying to suggest that this has been intentionally done it's a nonsense tbh. Most of the players that have gone have left not because we decided it was best to let them go so that we could move the team forward (you could argue this could be the case with Nolan or possibly even Carroll) but either because of our relegation or because they weren't happy with what the new regime have been doing with the club. You can credit the choice of players that have came in to replace those who have left but I don't think you can credit the reasons behind it. Happy Face 29
The op asked about which ones Ashley had sold, so Cole and that wouldn't come into it. If you're limiting it to players Ashley sold under 30, then the question is basically, out of these players, which have shown form since? Nolan Routledge Carroll Enrique Martins Bassong Nzogbia Milner Parker
TicTacWoe 0
Don't think we're missing any of those too much (even Enrique as good as he is). Milner, Enrique and Parker (if he played for us as he has done for Spurs) would get into the team though. Never thought that much of Beye and Bassong, they just shone in a really shite/unmotivated team imo.
Aeris 0
I'd easily swap Obertan and Jonas for N'Zogbia and Milner... although Obertan is young I just don't see the potential for much improvement, and Jonas is just getting older, slower, less skilled and is overpaid... Jonas slow with no skill? You may as well also say he's lazy too. I agree his end product is lacking but the rest is bollocks

Enrique Bassong Nzogbia Milner I prefer Taylor to Bassong and N'Zogbia doesnt offer the same consistent commitment, passion and work rate of Jonas. Adding back in Enrique and Milner would massively improve the side though.
