Happy Face 29
Was disappointed with the crowd yesterday, if we're real contenders. http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/PR/attend.html Newcastle and Sunderland fill less of their stadiums than anyone else in the top half on average. Economy hitting the NE the hardest or dissatisfaction with the clubs?
peasepud 59
Hold on, something doesnt add up here..... 1. Norwich City Average attendance 26,434.......Highest attendance 26,816.......Capacity 26,034...... so on the average game, they have 400 people who shouldnt be there? Its another Hillsborough in the making.
BestBaNone 0
The casual ticket-buyer was always likely to miss yesterdays imo. Early kick off, televised game and a fair few of them will have just forked out £45 for a sunderland ticket. If anything our crowds are generally on the up after the relegation slump... People obviously don't fully trust those in charge at the club and if that repairs (recent transfer window will have helped a bit) we should continue to see the crowds rise. There's always a kick in the bollocks just around the corner with these lot though so...

Dr Gloom 22182
There's fuck all wrong with our crowds. 48k for a televised early game just after Xmas in Baltic conditions combined with a piss poor away following and the derby coming up. Not many clubs would get that.
Guest CabayeAye
Just enjoy it man, if we were winning AND getting 52,000 every game you'd be complaining that the grass on the pitch is too short or something. If you want to get pissed off over nothing, go and read the Daily Mail website.

We never got a crowd as big as yesterday for the first 5 games.
McFaul 35
49000 on a freezing day, people losing their jobs left right and centre, against a club who bring a shit away support (I can't see how many they had from my seat by the way), when the game is live on telly? Fucking great crowd, one 99% of clubs would die for. Rangers laughably claim to be a bigger club and better support than us, yet only 17,000 were at their game at Ibrox yesterday. Did anyone see that kid in the bumble bee Celtic top in the Leazes End. The fucking idiot. He seemed to think he could come in SJP with a Celtic top on without even a comment the disrespectful attention seeking twat. Me and me ripped it out of him and his pals at half time at the bookies. I said in a scotch accent "Sellick en Rangers are eh two biggest clubs in eh werruld" and they all looked at us and went "aye" "aye" straight faced. A bigger bunch of deluded complete bamps you will never ever see.

All the space I could see was in the posh seats like. And I can't see how many empty seats are between the away fans and ours But Arsenal were closer to a sell out for their televised fixture on a cold day too, in this economy, against Blackburn who have shitter saway support. There was no cunt at Arsenal, probably about 35000 just look at the pictures and ignore what is published. London is a lot wealthier place than the North East, and the recession is being felt harder here than down there. Plus they have respected owners, have won 6 trophies in the last 10 years, and are a global club.

Howmanheyman 33881
There was a huge gap where a full away support would be. There's nothing wrong with a 48,000 crowd against Vile in my opinion. Christ almighty, I can think of a few clubs who'd be shouting that attendance from the roof tops if only they could get that many supporters through the turnstiles, our neighbours and yesterdays visitors most definitely included!! Happy Face 29
The OP was off the back of our lowest attendance in 5 or so games, but the question was more about the average attendance. Still not recovered much past the relegation average, despite our best league performance in many more years. I'd have hoped more people would be enticed back by results and cut price tickets. 05/06 - 52,032 06/07 - 50,686 07/08 - 51,320 08/09 - 48,749 09/10 - 43,383 10/11 - 47,498 11/12 - 48,
Howmanheyman 33881
I thought average attendances were down across the board for clubs in similar circumstances, I.e. not a club who's in the PL for the first time in years. I think supporters are starting to feel a bit of cynicism towards the 'greatest show on earth' and the SKY hype is being seen for what it is. If you want to localise it to us then there's obviously people who won't go back for whatever reason. I was thrown out of my seat one time too many, didn't trust the owner and didn't fancy sitting elsewhere. Everyone will have their reasons. Some unemployment, some cutting their cloth, whatever. That's why I linked to the table of % stadiums are filled. The mackems have the worst for a top half club. We have the second worst. Similarly positioned clubs with comparable stadiums (dippers, Arsenal, Chelsea) aren't having the same trouble. Think it's more than the across the board drop off you mention, more the latter reasons. If current results and half price tickets aren't going to bring them fans back, hope we can push on more to entice them.

To be fair, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea, Villa and Spurs have more limited capacities than ourselves and the Mackems. I'd expect Liverpool to be virtually running to their capacity, Spurs should be the same as should Chelsea. Villa are Villa and Everton are on the bones of their arses. Put it this way, if all these clubs had as large capacity as us and the cheesey chip brigade, I don't think we'd be top of the percentage for empty seats.
