Howay 12496 Posted February 12, 2012 Share Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) Pards has to stop the high line against quick sides now, it works against slow sides but he surely understands now that it will get us killed against sides like Spurs, West Brom, Chelsea etc. I'm just glad we've got Wolves next and they shipped 5 goals too so hopefully it'll be a nice confidence booster before we host the tramps. Not kneejerking mate, just it's a worry that his is a consistent problem for us against pacy sides. He's doing a fantastic job just needs to figure out how to stop pacy sides or it's going to keep happening. Look forward to playing Wolves really think we can give them a battering (hopefully they hold onto Mick at least until after we play them.). Shipped 10 goals in the last 2 league away games, with a cup defeat at the mighty Brighton the jam in that sandwich. We're currently abysmal away from home. Thats not good enough, even by the medicore standards I have for the club. Not trying to scaremonger but there are things to be addressed. Wolves will tell us a lot. If Tiote and Cabaye are back and form isnt better, then talk of the champions league will look even more stupid than it does now. We really are quite bog standard even with our first choice 11, the fullbacks in particular on Saturday were shiocking and we have little or no decent cover for them. Or anyone else for that matter. Hardly Me being realistic that we are a point off a champions league spot in February is just that, the real picture. People fretting that we have suddenly gone to shit because we get beaten off a pretty good spurs team when we are without players such as Steven Taylor, Tiote and Cabate is a bit silly. The side is set up to hold positions and be solid and it paid off early season. But he likes hard working almost defensive wingers (Guti in particular - how many assists has he got in all honesty). The wingers we have aren't really that dangerous and have mixed roles (with a massive eye to defending). I wouldn't say in all honesty Pards is an attakcing coach I'd say he's a nailed on pragmatist with high workrate as his benchmark. Tbf to him, mostly it has been successful. Think we've been lucky enough to have 2/3 standout players who have made the difference (Ba scoring from a lot of half chances). He's got to his tally without too much being put on a plate for him. Think that's mainly to do with us not being ensconced in the opponents half in numbers as you say, being more defensively inclined. Like it when someone just nails it with simple insight. The main thing I noticed at fault for at least two of the goals was just the lack of tracking back. There was a moment when Guthrie lost it on the edge of their box and Perch was right there next to him. Before we knew it the ball was down the other end of the pitch with Guthrie/Perch left far far behind and Obertan making no effort to get back. Had it been Cabaye/Tiote playing then it probably would have been Cabaye playing on the edge of their box but Tiote playing his holding roll much deeper should the counter attack happen. Instead we left them with tons of space, and our defending and marking was just poor at best. Would have been a different game if we had our starting 11...even having Raylor on the right might have changed it. But at the end of the day you have just got to say that Tottenham played absolutely brilliantly, and it didn't help that we were off the pace.
