Demba Ba, better than Sir Les?

Not yet. Les scored 41 goals in two seasons here.

In a canny bit better side. Take your point re: needing to do it over a longer period though. Sir Les scored more 41 goals though, didn't he?

Playing in a very different team. Mind you Ferdinand was class in an average QPR side too.

Looks brilliant on the deck mind and has the edge over Sir Les there. I was quietly positive about the signing when we got him but then when he started he looked like he couldn't trap a bag of wet cement. Class now though.

Demba is obviously more important to us than Les was. Ba has now scored 15 goals, Leon Best is second with 3

Whereas in that 95-96 season we had Beardsley and Lee who scored regularly and then of course Shearer in the 96-97 season. That doesn't take anything away from Les though. He scored 29 goals in his first season here, that's great in anyone's book.

He's certainly on a par with him.Though I think their style of play is different. Reminds me a bit more of Cole actually.

Ba's ability to get a decent shot off from a situation that's seemingly impossible amazes me at times. There was an effort against Chelsea when the ball was stuck under his feet but somehow he directed it, with power, towards the goal and only a decent save from Cech stopped it going in.

Steven Taylor made a point about that in the studio last night. Pointed out that he looked a bit lacklustre at Scunthorpe but he pointed out that Ba was going through Ramadan then.

Class in the air. Class on the ground. Can beat a man. Makes intelligent runs. Has a good free kick. Holds the ball up well. Tracks back. Takes his chances. Makes chances for himself and others. He is the real deal.

He looks dangerous when he has the ball at his feet and takes players on. Saw at least 3 dangerous attacking dribbles, one of which was the foul that led to Cabeye's goal.

Absolutely amazed he was available on a free. As people have been saying, he's a £20million player based on his first half season here.

Best not to get too far ahead of ourselves as it is just half a season at the mo (calendar year if you count W Ham mind) but it should absolutely be enjoyed to the full for what it is. What I will say though is that when the goals do tail off, as they do at some time for all strikers, his hold up play is a massive bonus to the team too.

Without 'getting too far ahead' I'd suggest he's been better for us in the past 5 months than Andy Carroll was in the same period last season.

If I remember correctly West Ham stupidly agreed on some bonkers clause in his contract that he could leave on a free if they were relegated. Can't remember if that was ever verified though. We've pulled off some amazing deals lately in Ba, Tiote, Cabaye, Santon etc not to mention the 35 million for Carroll.

Aye. He's definitely scored goals that Carroll wouldn't have. Only hope his level of effectiveness for us in the 2nd half of the season is better than Carroll's was too, if you follow what I'm saying.

You mean when we trade him to Liverpoo in a straight swap for Wor Andy?
