Was reading that Abramovich has now spent a billion at Chelsea.

For 3 league titles and 3 FA cups.

And none of it sustainable long term.

Lucky to get a point at Swansea, and touch and go whether they'll get into the champions league this year.

Wonder what he'd get from any investor looking to buy a club. Half that?

Everything going just as predicted then Leazes? Dont tell me, 'just wait till the summer'?

;)

I can tell you now in true Leighton Baines style Tiote's away to Chelsea for £23m in June.

Why did it not happen in January?

No idea.

Hope not signing a centre back or two doesn't end up biting us on the arse....we're one bad injury away from Danny Simpson at CB for the rest of the season...am sure the club knows what its doing though :glare:

people would be complaining if we'd paid over the odds for Mariappa though which we wisely refused to do.

Colocinni getting a new contract now is a must in the next month or so, Ba and Cisse back in the side will be a big boost, can see the system of late staying the same with them replacing Best and Shola respectively but the increase in quality of those two positions will be immense and will have an effect on the rest of the team

Colo isnt signing a new deal, if he wanted to stay he'd have signed by now. He's aiming for the same as Enrique, but may be sold before his contract is allowed to run down completely. Ba scored 2 belters v Norwich and it still wasnt enough because we were shite at the back. Simpson was beaten all ends up by a divi 2 journeyman on Saturday which led to their winner. Santon looked awful v both Fulham and Brighton.

I realise it's not as bad as I've painted it, but it's yet another roll of the dice by Ashley when we should be in a posistion of strength and be seen as a good option for any half decent young player as I'm sure Mariappa is thinking as we speak. Don't know if he'd have been any good or not but we've been left short in a vital posistion and there is really no need for it.

semimental, jaysouthernmag etc all know best mate, the club is somehow losing its best players yet the sky is the limit and they will continue to find replacements kicking a ball around Africa for 10% of the price.

If only every successful team in the history of the game had adopted this mind-blowing blueprint, just think of the money the owners of football clubs could have pocketed.

Next financial year/fair play?

Might be a case that we knew we wouldn't get an adequate reasonably priced replacement in January, and many toon fans wouldn't stomach the idea of him being loaned back to us till May, in the same way the Genk fans are with de Bruyne.

Look you fucking crackpot

Carroll replaced by BA

Enrique replaced by Santon

Nolan replaced by Cabaye

Signed Cisse,Marvaux,Ben Arfa,Obertan(yes I know)

Kicking a ball around in Africa? Tiote is an international who won the dutch league, so is Cabaye who won the French league. Santon is an U21 international who has played for one of Italys biggest ckubs. BA is THE best signing in ages and Cisse has been consistently scoring goals in the German league. Justify your comment

We have also not sold any of the players you said in the window, just give it a fucking rest, at least until the summer.

Why not just post comments about the games, performances, formations etc.

do give the arselicking of Ashley a rest man, at least until he has matched his predecessors league positons to justify his "superior" policies.

It's not arselicking, I'm pointing out that your comments are flawed and you are so blinded by your hatred of Ashley you can't see anything good that's going on and that's really sad.

Now, please explain your comment about picking up players kicking a ball around in Africa

omg. For years - long before you even heard of Newcastle - there was a lot of people who were blinded by hatred of a regime who saved the club from years of absolute oblivion with one step in the grave and converted it into one of the biggest clubs in europe. Don't argue about this, its fact.

Quite why they hated them for doing that, I've no idea, but they insisted that anybody else would come in and "do better". Don't argue about this either, this is fact, and you weren't here so can't dispute it.

I don't "hate" Ashley, I just see him for what he's doing, and its easy because I've seen it before. He's taking the club back 20 years, and I've explained on countless occasions why and how, back to a selling club with no ambition to attempt to punch its weight and behave like the big club that it is. What is so difficult to grasp about this ?

Happy enough with the window really. I can take a Perch once in a while if It keeps me from watching the Shola/Best strike partnership.

Looks like we did the one "great value deal" that was there this window and took that opportunity, which im happy with.

Short-term we will really struggle if Colo/Willo gets injured, but it seems we will always take that risk now rather than sign someone we have to overpay for. Be interesting to see if these Douglas or Mbiwa sagas rematerialise in the summer, I would probably have called them smokescreens if it wasnt for the Cisse signing. Which actually did show they can spend money on the right player. I think a lot of people underestimate him, he has been one of the hottest properties around, and 7.5m to 10m or whatever it is does look like a proper steal to me. Had we signed Erdinc or Maiga for about the same amount, it would not have excited me in the least same degree.

There are quite a few very good freebies/player contracts running down in the summer, and im really excited to see what we can do then. While im still terrified of who we might get rid of. If I have to wait for 6months or a year for that defensive gap to be plugged with quality rather than a place-holder, it will probably be worth it in the long run to me.

Blinded by hatred!

Get over yourself, who honestly hated competing in the Champions League?

Those days were over though the moment Shepherd sacked Robson and sold our best players and failing to replace them. You need to acknowledge that the spunkbubble had burst; we were on a hiding to nothing with Shepherd. Imagine him giving Allardyce a £50million war chest! Relegation and financial mire.

We're a competitive outfit at the moment. It's yet to see if this will last but you have to admit that at present we're looking very promising. Turning into a financially sound club, investing in a new striker and keeping hold of our best players in the transfer window. All of which you seem to think is a heinous crime on Ashley's behalf. This season we've been anything but a club with no ambition you!

SBR was a good man for the club, a good manager, loved by everybody, but I don't think when he was sacked that was the nail in the coffin. It was finally all over when he appointed Graham Souness.

Basically a different way of saying the same thing though, although I do know what you mean, given that one followed the other.

Nar my point is there are plenty of good managers who could've continued the work of SBR, kept Bellamy happy, kept Robert happy, spent 50 odd million wisely, and the last 7 or 8 years would've been a lot different. People have short memories there was a lot of fans out there who weren't too sad to see SBR lose his job, as time goes by that becomes eroded from peoples memories. Souness wasted everything Owen, Luque, Boumsong you can go on and on, they were Man Utd type fees and we could've had total top class players we ended up with a cunt manager, and shite players.

Aye, it was piss poor on both accounts. It takes a special kind of hopelessness to turn a european-qualifying team into relegation battlers.

I think SBR had done all he could when he left but he should've gone with dignity at the end of the previous season, not made into a scape goat by a chairman who no longer had a clue what he was doing. Whilst you may or may not approve of Mike Ashley, it's idiotic not to concede that Shepherd really did fuck us over both by sacking a respected and loyal manager and replacing him with someone who truly did set us back years.

I knew what you meant. There obviously weren't plenty of good managers willing to come at that exact time though. Hence ending up with Souness.

I think Robson had lost it a bit. It's all relative in football though, i.e. it was only in relation to the previous two seasons. Things needed freshening up. I.e. new players and/or a new manager. The new manager had to be an improvement on Robson though. Leazes reckons we had a top manager lined up who pulled out at the last minute. Maybe that's true. Then again, even if Shepherd himself had told me that I wouldn't neccessarily think that made it the truth, if you know what I mean.

I don't think it was a case of good managers unwilling to come, I think it was more a case of a catastrophic error of judgement from FFS. The "brat pack" pish was vastly over played in my view. Who gives a fuck if you have a brat pack when you're top 4 anyway, and we only came 5th the next season because of too many draws and a terrible injury crisis. He got Souness in as he saw him as someone who would bang a few heads to together because he was a hard man. I think that clouded FFS judgement, and he ignored people like Redknapp, Moyes, Jol etc... who he could've easily got here then.

Well it's moot anyway isn't it? I.e. no point saying he could've if he didn't attract a top manager to take over. It's the same net result. I tend to think he overestimated our pulling power at the time.

I think he was right to talk up the club and look high. We qualified for the Champions League twice, without a doubt I think for a period only Man Utd or Arsenal were more attractive, we were certainly equal to Liverpool and maybe above Chelsea till Abramovic came, you only had to look at the players we signed and the clubs we were signing them from to see we were big players.
