Right... about to be linked with 5000 players, thought we could gather all the rumours in a single thread.

( Hope thats alright and not making me look like Anders Behring-Breivik McFaul... )

Wilfred Zaha from CP again linked today for about 10 million? Too much/too little/ good enough?

Seems steep given his scoring record tbh, I wouldnt even value entire Crystal Palace at 10 mill

Additionally, Mike Ashley paying 10 million for a wankership player? When toasters start falling from the sky..

I'm now preparing myself for us signing a centre half but not a forward. The club will come out and say we tried to sign one but he failed his medical and we then tried but didnt have time to get another through the door.

Without getting into semantics on whether santon is a right or left back - we need one on the other side of Santon, and a new CB yeah. Williamson IS the cover back, I will never be happy with him as a first choice. As a benchwarmer comfortable with that position, I dont think we can realistically hope to find a better CB. In an ideal world, Ryan Taylor and Danny simpson would be first choice backups, and Williamson as well - with Colo, Taylor and a new CB battling for the 2 positions ( taylor and the new one in reality).

So New CB, new LB, and a New striker. If Tiote goes, we need a new DM as well. But with guthrie gosling abeid coming through etc, I can see the board gambling on one of the three "making it".

Guthrie could probably do a decent job, but if he gets injured its back to the drawing board, some deer in the heedlights player thrown into the starting elleven yet again...

If we had proper cover for our defenders we would probably be sitting at 30+ points now. Pointless arguement I know, but if we had decent backup we would have won vs norwich and at least taken a point vs chelsea..

http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/12/17/chelsea-to-offer-cash-plus-players-for-cheick-tiote/#more-110448

What kind of offer would you accept for tiote?

I mean I dont want to him to leave, but when chelsea comes knocking 9 of 10 players will want to go.

Im thinking - Alex Kalou etc... these are players chelsea want RID of. Big wages and not playing, not even training with the first team. We would be doing THEM a favor taking them off their hands.

That being said I think at least Alex could do a job here, but still I wouldnt want him to be "valued at 7 mill" or so and baked into a tiote deal in order to subtract loads of cash...

20 million, Alex the other way and Josh McEachran on a season long loan ( option to buy would be lovely but not likely). Drogba is never going to happen because he is on what, 150 grand a week?

Mate. What are you on about?

Alex: too old, wages.

Kalou: wages.

McEachran: loan maybe, loan to buy???? come on.

Drogba:

These threads always get embarrassing, but this embarrassing this quickly? Sort it out buddy.

Kalou im not so sure. I rate him as a shittier version of Suarez, decent flair but how many sitters does he need to score? Not very prolific is he...

Alex going to a CL club... maybe abroad, cant see anyone in england taking him. And if you have the choice between a top-flight ( albeit maybe not CL) english club and some continental CL club with 2000 people on their home watches, I dont think the choice is as clear cut as you make it out to be Ant.

We arent big guns anymore, but I think most players - even foreign ones - view us differently than say West Brom or Wigan..

I`ve seen a bit of Kalou, he is alright but I do think he makes some wierd choices sometimes...as for any chelsea player its unlikely they would come here yes. Im not that keen on any player coming from a better club in order to get a last "big payday", but with Tiote going the other way - is there anyone we would have here? Just thinking out loud is all.

On our period are we? Alex is a year younger than Colo. too old? I think Ive adressed everything you just made fun of in my original post. None of the above are very likely, but with Tiote going the other way and a few of these desperately wanting playing time, why not a bit of speculation for fun within a reasonable framework? I never said Drogba was on the table. I said maybe mceachran on a loan and possibly alex if wages are manageable ( which they probably arent) and him wanting to come here ( also a questionmark)

Serious question though: Does Alex honestly expect that he can expect similar to chelsea wages if he is forced to move? He might do an Eto`o, but are there really no fotballers who would go down a bit moneywise in order to get into a starting elleven and jumpstart their career?

ALAN PARDEW wants a Brit-based defender to replace Steven Taylor this January – and Newcastle are weighing up a move for Chris Samba.

Samba’s current asking price of £10m would be too much, but United might hope to exploit uncertainty at Blackburn and take him for nearer £7m.

Samba would certainly be keen on the move and, while it would take a significant outlay from owner Mike Ashley, the Sunday Sun has been told there IS cash to spend on the right player.

The giant 6ft 4in defender certainly has his admirers at St James’ Park and, while it was assumed that United would continue to look overseas for their replacement for Taylor, Pardew is desperate to land a player with top-flight experience.

The Sunday Sun understands United have been offered both Lyon’s Aly Cissokho and Birmingham’s Curtis Davies in recent days.

United wanted Cissokho in the summer, but would not pay Lyon’s asking price and much will depend on whether a package can be put together that appeals.

“It’s a world market but centre-half is a key position and you’ve got to be sure about what you’re getting in that position,” said Pardew.

“It’s a position that gets highlighted in the Premier League – as (Chelsea defender) Luiz is finding out.

“It’s not a case of having to go in and convince (Mike Ashley).

“The last time we met he said: ‘When are you going to get a centre half?’

“He understands the game, perhaps more so than people realise.

“Maybe not on a technical basis but he knows how it works – he knows we need a defender and we’ll try to get one in.

“He’s been excited by the season so far and he’s looking forward to this next period of games.”

United will now be forced to move on to new striker targets after Modibo Maiga’s move fell through after a problem with the medical.

The Mali forward’s representatives insist that he is medically sound, but the Sunday Sun understands there was an issue with a knee injury which caused concern.

A source close to the deal proclaimed it “dead” – and said there was no chance of it being resurrected.

United had already assembled a hit list of targets that includes Luuk de Jong of FC Twente and Lille’s Moussa Sow, who are both keen to move to Tyneside.

The club are keen on Wilfred Zaha of Crystal Palace but a St James’ Park insider described talk of a £10million bid as “pure fantasy”.

Newcastle have sent scouts to watch Palace on several occasions, and would also like Nathaniel Clyne to replace Danny Simpson – if the former Manchester United man can’t agree a new deal.
