Simpson, Guthrie and Cabaye have all had ample stick too. Ben arfa shouldn't avoid any stick because of two speculative rakes wide of the target. Simpson forced a great save with a better effort than either of Ben Arfa's. He was still utter wank too. I don't think anyone has "singled him out" it's just he does not merit the blind man-love he get's from way to many. It's the logic behind everyones reasoning for why we lose that gets to me. If we lose and Obertan plays it's Obertans fault. if we lose and Ben Arfa doesnt play its Pardew's fault. If Ben Arfa plays and doesnt live up to his almighty expectations its reason for him not to play whilst others have poor games and none of them get mentioned. Look at Cabaye yesterday, he done nothing, Ba was poor aswell. People are scapegoating the same players over and over again without looking further afield Totally agree, but I think HBA appears nominated as the saviour and holds some anointed position as the infallible genius who, when some players can do no right, he's on the can do no wrong side of the same coin (to some people) and any criticism is sacrilege. Why we seem unable to do it is a mystery. The thing is, we scored 2 goals. That obviously should be enough against Wolves at SJP. Yes, we didn't create much but that's the way it's been all season. You've managed to sum Ben Arfa's failings up in the same post where you seek to defend him. At the moment, we're only seeing glimpses of his talent. It's like hie has a highlight reel quota to fill. Once he's done that he's back to losing possession 9 times out of 10 when there's a pass on. You could point out that with more starts his confidence would grow, and you'd be right, but he's still got to prove himself worthy when he's on as a sub too. At the moment, I can't blame Pardew for not trusting Ben Arfa. You can tell how much he frustrates Pardew - knowing he's got a player of such ability, but one who is yet to consistently harness it. KSA - Shola's highlights package has been assembled across the 4 million seasons he has been here. My point was that despite the lack of time on the pitch Ben Arfa still has a pretty impressive highlights package to him name. Noone can deny he's capable of the sublime, but as for being a waster it's tough to say whether this is something that has plagued him throughout his career as most assessements of his ability on here would be simply looking at highlights that are available online, as there's not a great many Lyon or Marseille fans kicking about here. As for how much of his wastefulness is down to attitude and application and how much is down to being rusty and lacking cohesion noone can say with any level or certainty. I'd like to see some confidence shown in him so that he has the chance to properly establish himself in the side - in the same way that Obertan was continualy played by Pardew. The main problem with this is that trying to fit him into the side without sacraficing some of our more consistent performers is proving tough. He doesn't seem suited to playing in wide channels as it limits his space and also cuts down his passing avenues. As it is currently we know he's not a player who likes to make a backwards pass, but this is something he'll need to learn - patience. Having to appear in cameo performances from the bench must be contributing to the way in which almost every time he gets the ball he tries to create something, regardless of where he is and what other options may potentially be available. Some might say that we can't afford to give him a run in the side based simply on his ability and previous successes, but I'd say that we can't afford not to. Just short of 1 every 3 minutes. and he was 100% accurate with them. In 65 minutes Ryan Taylor passed 15 times (one every 4 minutes 20 seconds) and was only 87% accurate. However, none of Ben Arfa's passes were deemed "key". 2 Of Taylors were. Ben Arfa didn't put a single cross in. Taylor attempted 4, 2 of which were accurate. Ben Arfa was disposessed 3 times (only Ba and Gutierrez lost the ball more more and they played 3 times as long) and he produced no successful dribbles or shots on target. Baggio 0 Posted February 27, 2012 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Completely fed up of the Ben Arfa situation now, how he's treated by some of our fans reminds me of how the media were treating Joe Cole going in to the last World cup like he was the saviour being left out that would change our fortunes when he gets in, that is until he gets on and does fuck all and then slowly the penny starts to drop that he isn't the saviour after all. Like I said in the other thread, his whole play yesterday was picking the ball up, cut inside, shoot, rinse, repeat. That's not to say Obertan or Ryan Taylor are the long term answer either and a right midfielder should definitely be on the shopping list this summer. Like him or not Ben Arfa creates chances (as well aa losing the ball a lot) so at least you know you'll get chances when hes on. I think he's fair game for criticism though. Why should any player be off limits? He got his fair share of praise for his performances against Everton and Man City (I spoke of spunking into my undercrackers). Exactly, you can count on one hand the number of times he's started in his preferred position of CF/RW/LW and 3 of those were against 3 of the top 4 clubs in England, in 2 of those he won us a penalty and set up Ba twice who was unlucky not to score and then after a poor first half against Chelsea he hasn't been given a run in the team and from an outsider looking in, it seems as though Pardew just doesn't fancy him and doesn't want to give him that chance to show what he can do apart from cameo's from the bench in which he's not playing in his naural position Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
